Coach McKinney grew up in Apex, NC. He attended Apex High, Guilford College and NC State while playing football here in the Tar Heel State. A seven-year veteran WR in the arena football leagues and seven years coaching in arena football. Coach McKinney has helped his franchises to five Championship games in seven years of coaching professional indoor football and hopes to help bring another to his home state and city where he played collegiate football.

Coach McKinney has coached in the AFL for the Philadelphia Soul (2013, Special Teams and WR Coach), St. Louis Attack (2014-15 Head Coach), Triangle Torch (2016-18 Offensive Coordinator and Head Coach), Atlanta Havoc (2018 Assistant Coach), Cape Fear Heroes (2019 Head Coach).

Coach McKinney had this to say “I lived in Greensboro while attending Guilford College and still visit frequently and have family and friends who live in Greensboro and it is exciting to be coming back home to Greensboro, which I consider my second home, and be able to coach one of the best professional teams in front of where it all started for me and my football career.”
Head Coach Resignalo said “Coach McKinney coached on my staff in 2016 and in 2018 with the Havoc where we won a championship. I am excited to get Coach McKinney back to his second home of Greensboro where he played college ball at Guilford College. So, he is a local guy in a sense and has a lot of ties to local business and family and friends in the Triad. So as much as it is exciting for us to have him, I know it is pretty cool for him to be back here coaching the game he loves, in front of the people he cares about!”
