Northern held Northeast scoreless in the 4th quarter
#1 NG girls set to face #2 Eastern Alamance girls on Friday night 6pm in the Mid-State 3-A Finals, at Northern Guilford High School, weather permitting…

Northern led in scoring by freshman Jaydn Newsome with 19 points and by senior Jayla Harris with 16 points….
Also you had Milan Gordon with 7 points, Taylor Haynes with 6 and Mikayla Penn with 2 points…

Northeast led by seniors Asia Pearley with 14 points and Carter with 11 points…
NEG with 5 points from Patrick and 4 points from Barrow, in support of Pearley and Carter…

That fourth quarter was the killer for NEG, as the Rams played and stayed close to Northern Guilford, for three periods of the contest…

Coach Kim Furlough from Northern said her Nighthawks turned up the pressure in the 4th quarter, and her ‘Hawks were playing much more aggressive….Newsome was awesome, that is how we saw it, as the freshman played with poise and excellent court awareness for Northern Guilford…Coach Furlough said, “Newsome is advanced beyond her years”…And I would have to also say, Newsome has some pretty good basketball knowledge between her ears, for a freshman…Using the backboard, knowing where she is on the court, knowing how to use backboard on her inside bank shots and knowing how to make the move with her mini-hook shot…She can also take you to the basket off of her dribble and this kid is fun to watch play…Chances are she will hit 50% of her shots from the field and somewhere in the range of 85% from the free throw line, based upon what we have been seeing from her this year/season…

Coach Furlough also praised the leadership of senior Jayla Harris, saying, “Harris is one of the top captains I have ever had here at Northern Guilford”…Jayla Harris, one of the best all-time, at Northern Guilford HS….

Coach Furlough liked the defense of freshman point guard Christina DeLisa…Coach Furlough said, “DeLisa is like a little gnat out there on the court”…Delisa is like a total pest on defense and she has some very good ball-handling skills too, and is well suited to run the point guard spot on the Lady Nighthawks team..

Coach Furlough told us her team will have practice on Thursday morning, since the Guilford County Schools are dismissing early tomorrow…The Nighthawks’ Conference Tournament Championship Game vs. #2 Eastern Alamance will be played on Saturday at 6pm, at Northern Guilford HS, if the teams are unable to play on Friday night due to the weather…
(Kudos to Matt Furlough, for the great job he has been doing with the graphics, on the Northern Guilford girls basketball Twitter site….)

Coach Shawana Polk from the Northeast Guilford girls said her Rams team is young, with only two seniors, Pearley and the point guard Carter…Coach Polk said, “We are growing and improving as a team at Northeast Guilford, and my goal is to see that growth and improvement continue”….Coch Polk said Pearley’s foul troubles in the second half cost her team scoring opportunities, that they couldn’t get back…

**********Other area scores from Wednesday night:**********
North Davidson boys 60, Thomasville 48
Oak Grove girls 44, North Davidson 36
CPC 4-A Tournament:Glenn boys 72, Davie County 55

  1. With Parkland changing that defense like they did it’s hard to make an adjustment if you haven’t worked on offense for Triangle and 2. Southeast girls are on a mission looking more and more like back to back state champs. Kadyn Dawkins scored 26 points for Eastern Guilford in 3 quarters now they play BW for the 3rd time and this one at home going to be tough. Eastern Guilford has lost in the last two conference championship games 3rd time might be the charm.

  2. Looks like the High Point Andrews boys delivered the “Stone Cold Stunner” of the week last night, when they knocked off the #1 seeded Randleman Tigers in the PAC 7 2-A Tournament…

Earlier in the week, a big upset when the #7 Northeast Guilford boys defeated #2 Western Alamance, in the Mid-State 3-A boys First Round action…

  3. The Southeast Guilford girls are primed to make a run at their second straight 3A State Title. They should be able to make this happen.

    GO FALCONS
