Here are some of the games we are finding on the slate, with teams coming to the plate today, in Guilford County…..
(Should be fairly nice today, while the sun is still up.)

Northeast Guilford at Western Guilford JV’s at 4:30pm and Varsity at 7pm….Watch closely for Western Guilford’s senior leaders in Trevor Glisson(big-time bat and likes to see his balls land on the other side of the fence, the one in the outfield), Robbie Boyd(very smooth at third base and can pitch with some great junk), Caleb Carden, Nathan Fury,(as Carden and Fury both have strong bats and lots of experience and at-bats, from over the years), Cooper Speight(this kid is really big, at 6’5 and he can bring it), and Nick Allred, another steady force, as WG Hornet senior leader…NEG is building their baseball team and the lead contractor, in this re-construction project is Cody Donnell, and he will be expected to put up some big numbers, when NEG travels to Western Guilford today…..

Grimsley at Southeast Guilford JV’s at 4:30 and Varsity at 7pm….Gus Hughes, the Greensboro Grimsley Whirlies’ ace could be throwing for Grimsley today and he is a senior that is headed to UNC-Charlotte/Charlotte…..For SEG, they may go/throw their ace ‘Bo Bo’ Wallace, since this is the first game of the season, and the ace can always use some work….Grimsley has maybe their most talented overall team in years and that Metro with Grimsley and Northwest Guilford, is going to be a war…Grimsley with Luke Jenkins, Paddy McGonigal and Paddy can pitch and he can run a rake, plus you have Eli Willen, who has developed into one of the best high school pitchers in the Triad, then you have three, count them, three Albrights on this Grimsley squad…There’s Tyler, Griffin and Lawson Albright, and you have Jackson Dempsey, who has been wearing a Grimsley uniform, along with Gus Hughes, for many years…For SEG, you have to go along with Brandon ‘Bo Bo’ Wallace; Isaiah Rhem, Jake Jenkins-Cowart, TJ Ash, and Ian Sweet as some of of key Falcon components….Rhem at SS mans the left side of the SEG infield, Ash can run the outfield and Jake can pitch and he is one of the top first baseman, in the state…At around 6’6 and a with a sweeping glove, Cowart reminds you somewhat of a Grimsley player that got it done for the Whirlies and later did the same things for N.C. State, and that would be Larry Dempsey and sort of like Larry’s bookend, Mike Dempsey….And Jackson Dempsey is a part of that crowd….Cowart has a lot of college looks and at one time, he was sold on East Carolina, but not sure about that in today’s time frame…Sweet has a brother, Devin Sweet, who is now working in the minors for the Mariners, and if Ian can match what Devin was doing at SEG, that would be “SWEEEET”….Ash and Rhem are so fast, we could not find a stopwatch to time them….Back on Grimsley, I think Griffin Albright, is a baseball only Albright, and Tyler is the Albright, that will be playing college baseball, and maybe Tyler will play at Duke, since his dad Stuart played football at Duke, and his uncle Eric Albright, played baseball at Duke……

East Forsyth at Northern Guilford JV’s at 4:30 and Varsity…Don’t look now, but Northern Guilford has a Top 5 3-A team for the entire state, and they may be going with Slater Ward today….East Forsyth has just about all of their aces back from last season’s team and East got beat up pretty bad last year, but those kids got a load of experience and now they are ready to take last year’s suffering out on somebody else…NG’s best hitter may be this kid right here, Josh Deslauriers…I think Josh was .500-plus in batting last season for the Nighthawks..Catcher Hank Dodson is another NG veteran and Jake Wagoner is a senior that I think is committed to Lees-McRae….SEG has both Northern Guilford and East Forsyth on the SEG Falcons early schedule, so we will find out pretty quickly, what is going on around here, for 2020….

Glenn at Northwest Guilford 5:30pm…Northwest Guilford under the leadership of new head coach Chris Maness is loaded…NWG could be a Top 5 4-A team in the state and with NWG and Grimsley both in the Metro, those should be some outstanding battles, with the Vikings and the Whirlies this season, for Metro 4-A supremacy….Ragsdale, High Point Central and Page might be doing some yelling over there in the Metro too….We said NWG was loaded and take your pick for some of their top players, and you can start with Joey Rezek, who can man the outfield in center and also set up behind the center of the dish and catch for the Vikings…You also have Hayden Summers, who is one of NWG’s top pitchers and can play either side of the infield, at second base, or shortstop…Gavin Mortenson can do some of the same things that Summers does, P, 2B and SS and Mortenson is one of the top returning hitters on the NWG team….Josh Foulks ought to be big plus for NWG…His dad is Stephen Foulks, and Stephen was part of some very tough Guilford College teams, back in the day…Couple of news kids to look out for are Sylas Boris and Bristol Carter….They are both freshman and they were playing big and carrying some big bats over at Kernodle Middle last year, for Coach Allen Boyd…

++++++++++I am going to stop on these notes today and we will look at some more games/teams tomorrow…We, as in I, start writing this stuff up and the next thing you know we are writing another book….If your team or player did not get mentioned today, I can you bet you good money, we will probably be talking about them tomorrow or the next day, so be patient….We just keep raising the bar so high, that we are going to have to find a way to back off of here one day….But until then, and when that day arrives, you are the beneficiary, and I guess we will just write on….++++++++++
