ELON, N.C.— Elon women’s lacrosse’s Quinn Daly tied the program record for single-game draw controls (10) on April 11 as the Phoenix registered its eighth victory of the season against VCU at Rudd Field, 19-3.
“This was an impressive win over a very tough VCU team,” said head coach Josh Hexter. “I’m very proud of how our team was dialed in and focused all day today.”
THE RUNDOWN
-Elon came out hot at the start of the game, outscoring the Rams 8-0. After the teams traded a pair of goals, Mae McGlynn and Gillian Curran scored the final goals of the half to make the score 12-2 going into intermission.
-The Phoenix held VCU to just one goal in the second half in addition to adding seven goals to its score in the second period to end the game with the 16-goal win.
NOTES
-McGlynn and Curran paced the Phoenix scoring, totaling five goals apiece on the day for career highs. Margaret Stephan was the third Elon player with a hat trick, scoring three goals over the course of the game.
-McGlynn also led the team in ground balls (3), followed by Meredith Curtin, Lyndsey Morhardt and Ashley Duggan with two apiece.
-Daly’s 10 draw controls matches the program record set by Stephanie Asher (2018) and Curran (2020).
-In goal, Paulina DiFatta (8-0) recorded five saves in 45:53 minutes played. Paige Brown also made an appearance in the cage in the remaining 14:07 of the contest.
-Collectively, the Phoenix outshot the Rams 38-11 in addition to winning 15 of the 23 draw controls.
-Elon improves to 8-0 (2-0 CAA), while VCU falls to 6-6 (2-2 A10)
