GREENSBORO, N.C. —Wes Miller is off to the University of Cincinnati after 10 years leading UNC Greensboro men’s basketball.

Miller accepted a job as head men’s basketball coach of the Bearcats. His departure was announced Wednesday.

UNC Greensboro Chancellor Franklin Gilliam and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Kim Record said after 10 years of the Spartans’ unprecedented success, it was no surprise that other universities across the country were paying attention to Miller.

Gilliam and Record said they’ve worked hard to keep Miller in Greensboro, but he’s off to Cincinnati, despite their best efforts.

The two credited Wes for more than his coaching abilities.

“Wes is a leader and a tremendous human being. He mentors his players, is selfless in his devotion to them and to the UNCG community, and continues to inspire current and former players with his wisdom and dedication. We both consider him a friend, and will miss him more than we can say,” Gilliam and Record said in an email to the UNC Greensboro community.

Miller has seen incredible success at a young age, including two NCAA Tournament appearances in four years, five consecutive seasons of 20 or more victories and two Southern Conference Tournament Championships

Gilliam and Record said Miller has coached some of the university’s best players with class, dignity and grace. He’s built a strong foundation for the future, they said.

UNC Greensboro is now faced with the challenge of finding Miller’s successor. A national search has already begun.

“Wes, we wish you all the best (except when your team is playing against us),” they wrote.
