Good pregame interview with Grimsley coach Darryl Brown and also with East Forsyth coach Todd Willert…Game content and exciting action from Jamieson Stadium…
Defensive battle in the First Quarter, and it ended with the score Grimsley 0, East Forsyth 0
At Jamieson Stadium, the Grimsley Whirlies fell behind in the Round One Playoff contest vs. East Forsyth, as the EF Eagles’ Andrew Conrad knocked through a field goal from 50 yards out, and with 10:25 to go in the Second Quarter, East Forsyth led Grimsley, 3-0….Grimsley battled back though, as Alonza Barnett III hit Anthony Dunkins on a 10-yard touchdown pass, with 3:08 to go in the Second Quarter, and Grimsley took the lead, 7-3, over the East Forsyth Eagles, as the Jake Henry PAT kick was good…In the air, and it was there, with room to spare from Jake Henry…
Grimsley takes that 7-3 lead into halftime….Halftime:Grimsley 7, East Forsyth 3
In the Third Quarter, the Grimsley Defense really gets cracking as Tamorye Thompson recovers a fumble by East Forsyth, and the Grimsley offense turns that turnover into points, as Jeiel Melton takes off on a 47-yard sprint down the left side of the field and he ends up with his last stop being the end zone, and Melton has himself a nice TD run here….
The Grimsley Defense steps right back up again, when linebacker Cam Allison recovers a fumble by the East Forsyth Eagles, and Grimsley turns that turnover into points too, as the Whirlies QB Alonza Barnett III connects with Tyson Resper on a 29-yard touchdown pass, and now Grimsley has extended their lead to 20-3, pending the Jake Henry PAT kick…The Henry kick is good, and with 8:06 to play in the Third Quarter, Grimsley has seen their lead over East Forsyth grow to 21-3 Grimsley….There is 8:06 left to play in the Third Quarter, and your score is, Grimsley 21, East Forsyth 3……
Still in the Third Quarter, and Grimsley is ready to flex their muscles again, and this time, defensive back Caleb Curtain is going to get in on the act, as he picks off East QB Raynor and Curtain takes his Pick Six to the House…..It was a 59-yard interception return by Curtain and this gives Grimsley a lead of 27-3 over East Forsyth….The pick play by Curtain came with 3:10 to play in the Third Quarter, and after the Whirlies PAT kick from Jake Henry fails, Grimsley still has a comfortable lead over the EF Eagles, Grimsley 27, East Forsyth 3, and that is how your Third Quarter will end….Grimsley 27, East Forsyth 3….
East Forsyth will not lay down, and the EF Eagles kicker Andrew Conrad gets his best foot moving forward again, as Conrad connects from 32 yards away, and with the Conrad field coming at the 10:04 mark of the Fourth Quarter, Grimsley leads East Forsyth, 27-6…
We are in the fourth and final quarter/period, and your score is:Grimsley 27, East Forsyth 6….
East Forsyth will get on the scoreboard again, when the Eagles QB Jaylen Raynor hits his top receiver Da’Mon Stokes on a 40-yard touchdown pass play, and with the Andrew Conrad PAT kick, our new score is, Grimsley 27, East Forsyth 13……
And that is how our scoring will end tonight/Friday night….Our final score:Grimsley 27, East Forsyth 13
One of the big keys to the game was Grimsley scoring off of turnovers….Grimsley put up 20 Second Half points, and all three of the Whirlies’ touchdowns were set up by miscues coming from the East Forsyth offense…Grimsley recovered Two Fumbles and Picked off one EF pass, with a key interception by Caleb Curtain, those three Grimsley takeaways, led to 20 points in a half number two for the Grimsley Whirlies….Grimsley moves to (7-0), as the Whirlies stay Unbeaten for Spring 2021….East Forsyth closes out their Spring season, at (3-4)…Grimsley will be hosting the Durham Hillside Hornets in Round Two of the NCHSAA Spring Football Playoffs, and that game will be coming up next Friday night, April 23….The place to be is Jamieson Stadium on a Friday night, and it gets fun the longer Grimsley can go before they meet up a team that is bound and determined to take them out…Lots of things out there that could derail the Grimsley Express, but it is best to play the Tax/Text game and see if you can’t get out of the rat race……
Durham Hillside Hornets(6-1) at Grimsley Whirlies(7-0) next Friday at 7:30pm, in Jamieson Stadium…..
It was great having Coach Jeff Smouse, Grimsley football coaching legend, back in Greensboro to talk with our team today! Thanks Coach, we appreciate your support and words of encouragement! #GDTBAW #FearTheG @CoachSmouse pic.twitter.com/p25JY0Okk4

Former Grimsley Coach Jeff Smouse attended Fridays game as a guest of Coach Brown and the Athletic Department
Looking back to last night’s game, the “Hit of the Night/Hit of the Game” goes to Grimsley’s Sincere Burnette who came in on a blindside defensive rush from his linebacker spot and he leveled the East Forsyth QB Jaylen Raynor….That was some kind of hit there and Burnette came in and he wasn’t blocked….If he was blocked, it was a ‘lookout block’….One of those blocks where the offensive lineman yells to his quarterback at the last minute, “Lookout, here he comes”…Burnette really laid the lumber on Raynor, and as Joe Sirera, from the News and Record said at halftime, Raynor was lucky he could get up from that hit….Raynor was tough, he got up and continued to battle….But that was some kind of hit right there….
Also there was a real nice fumble recovery for Grimsley from their backup QB Nate Crawford, who was seeing some time on defense last night….Fine recovery by Crawford…
Great to hear that Coach Smouse was at the game on Friday…One of the best newspaper headlines came back in mid-80’s when Grimsley beat Page in the playoffs, and they wrote the headline, “The Smouse that Roared”, for Coach Smouse and his Whirlies beating Page….
With that Grimsley defense you will probably be seeing #2 and #22 and #5 and #25 in your sleep the night after you have played Grimsley….#2 Travis Shaw, #22 Tamorye Thompson, #5 Sincere Burnette, and #25 Quentin Williamson….
