FARMVILLE, Va. – The High Point University baseball team dropped an 8-1 contest at Longwood University in the Panthers’ final midweek game of the season on Tuesday (May 11).

Brady Pearre led the Panthers with a perfect 3-3 night at the plate and drew a walk. Pearre also added an outfield assist for the second game in a row as part of High Point’s three double plays turned on the day. He recorded an assist on a double play in HPU’s last game before playing Longwood when the Purple and White matched a program record with five twin killings, giving them a total of eight in their previous two games now.

High Point led the game early and scored in the opening frame for the 18th time this season. Peyton Carr skied one to shallow right field that drifted towards the line and evaded the closing right fielder and second baseman drifting back to the ball, allowing Carr to get to second with a bloop double. He scored two batters later when Adam Stuart ripped a hard-hit ball back up the middle for the RBI single and get the Panthers on the board.

That was the only inning HPU scored in and the lead didn’t last for long as Longwood tied it up in the bottom of the first before taking the lead for good with three runs in the bottom of the second. The Purple and White only managed to get a runner in scoring position three more times over the final eight innings and never moved a runner past second for the remainder of the contest. The Lancers tacked on two more with a bases-loaded double in the fourth and one more each in the fifth and seventh innings on two more doubles for the 8-1 decision.

High Point returns home for the final games at Williard Stadium this season when Presbyterian comes to town this weekend. The teams will meet for the first time this campaign on Friday (May 14) at 6 p.m. before playing a doubleheader on Saturday (May 15), beginning at 2 p.m.
