Fan Favorite Rickie Fowler Returns to Wyndham Championship

FAN FAVORITE RICKIE FOWLER RETURNS TO WYNDHAM CHAMPIONSHIP

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Rickie Fowler, one of the most popular players in professional golf, will play next week’s Wyndham Championship, the tournament announced today. The 82nd annual Wyndham Championship is set for Aug. 11-15, 2021 at Sedgefield Country Club.

Fowler joins world No. 8 Louis Oosthuizen, two-time Masters champion Bubba Watson, major winners Jason Day, Justin Rose, Francesco Molinari and Gary Woodland, Tommy Fleetwood, two-time Wyndham champion Brandt Snedeker, 2011 Wyndham champion and 2012 U.S. Open champion Webb Simpson, defending champion Jim Herman, former champions Si Woo Kim, J.T. Poston, Ryan Moore, Camilo Villegas and K.J. Choi, East Carolina University alum Harold Varner III, Will Zalatoris and 2011 FedExCup champion Bill Haas in the tournament field.

Fowler is a five-time PGA TOUR winner with three international wins also to his credit. A California native living in Florida, Fowler hasn’t won this season but finished tied for eighth at the PGA Championship, tied for 11th at the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide and tied for 17th at the Valero Texas Open. He represented the United States in the Ryder Cup matches in 2010, ’14, ’16 and ’18, the Presidents Cup in 2015, ’17 and ’19 and as an amateur in the Walker Cup in 2007 and ‘09. Fowler finished tied for 22nd in the 2016 Wyndham Championship, his only Wyndham Championship appearance. He is currently 125th in FedExCup points and 109th in the Official World Golf Rankings.

“We are ecstatic to welcome Rickie back to the Wyndham Championship and Sedgefield Country Club,” tournament director Mark Brazil said. “Rickie is a top-three draw in all of golf, and I know the avid golf fans and kids will be happy he’s playing here next week. This is big news for the Wyndham Championship that enhances our already strong field.”

After his opening round here in 2016, Fowler stopped to meet local fan Luci Collins and her husband, Travis. Luci was battling leukemia; she gave Fowler an orange bracelet with her name and a bible verse written on it. The next day, Fowler was still wearing Luci’s bracelet and continued to wear it during the FedExCup Playoffs. When asked why, he told Winston-Salem Journal reporter John Dell, “It’s the least I could do.” Luci would lose her battle with leukemia a few weeks later, but one of the brightest stars on the PGA TOUR made a significant impact on her life.

“It’s a special moment,” Brazil told Dell in 2016. “It just shows you how well-mannered and thoughtful Rickie is. He gets it.”

New this year, the Wyndham Championship will be open to the public Wednesday through Sunday only. All tickets will be digital, and bring your Wyndham Rewards Earner® Card because the Wyndham Championship is cashless.
