Looking Over the Crops:Wednesday Night at the Dudley Panthers’ football practice

Went over to Lincoln Street tonight, and checked out the Dudley Panthers’ football practice….Dudley working from 6pm until around 8pm…

From what the locals watching the practice were telling me, Dudley got practice started with work in the weight room….The work I saw was on the big field there on Highway 29 North…Dudley always starts/begins the season on the Highway 29 field, and then they move on over to baseball field, after school starts back up….

I would say Dudley had 40-45 players on the Varsity side of the field, and the JV’s were working with a much smaller group on the other side on the field…Varsity, on the south side of the field, and the JV’s were on the North side/end of the football practice field…

Dudley was working on passing drills with the Varsity, and the JV’s had assorted drills going on…The Dudley varsity worked on those passing drills for a while, then the switched and started doing offense vs. defense drills…Dudley had Jahmier Slade at quarterback, and they had a left-handed QB backing up Slade(the Edwards kid)…Dudley has another QB waiting in the wings, and he is out right now with a slight injury, but he was throwing some passes today, as the scout QB, and he was lofting some passes up there for the defensive backs to intercept…The new QB kid was wearing a baseball cap, and we hear he has several college baseball offers…

Dudley should be pretty well set at QB, with senior Jahmier Slade, the left-handed backup QB, who was wearing #13 today(Savoi Edwards), plus there is the baseball player who will also see time at QB, plus Dudley has the fastest Wildcat Quarterback in the state, and that would be senior speedster, Mehki Wall….

Wall was lining up at Wildcat Quarterback for Dudley today, Wall was at his regular wide receiver spot, and Wall was playing defensive back for Dudley…Wall to be a busy man this Fall for the Dudley Panthers…

Dudley will be at home next Wednesday for a football scrimmage versus the Mount Tabor Spartans and the Mallard Creek Mavericks….Then Dudley is set to go over to Grimsley next Friday night, for a football scrimmage/jamboree at Jamieson Stadium…Dudley at home next Wednesday vs. Mount Tabor and Mallard Creek, and then over to Grimsley next Friday…..

Dudley again focusing on the offense vs. defense work today…The fist part saw the main emphasis on the Dudley offense, and the second part of that session focused on the Dudley defense….Lots of work on that Dudley offense, then lots of work of that Dudley defense…One thing is for certain, Dudley has a good bunch of those big ole lineman, again this season…The linemen are big, and they can move….

Jahmier Slade, Mehki Wall, and many others will make that Dudley team get moving this season…Dudley will surely miss RB Milan Summers, and big TE Carlos Miller II, but they have others waiting in the wings for their chance to lead the Dudley Boyz….

The Dudley Panthers concluded their practice today with running….The backs and receivers ran the full length of the football field, going south to north, while the lineman and linebackers, ran their closing sprints, going sideline-to-sideline, working east to west….

Got word today from Brian Seagraves, that his son, Breon Seagraves is now at St. Augustine’s University, in Raleigh…Breon Seagraves, a defensive back, and a former Dudley Panther, has four seasons of college football eligibility remaining, and Breon Seagraves is currently 21 years old…..This is a great chance for Breon Seagraves to become a savvy veteran on the college football front…..

The Dudley Panthers are getting it ready, and Coach Steven Davis will continue to work his Panthers the rest of this week, on the football practice field, there on Highway 29 North, on the campus of James B. Dudley High School….Coach Davies will be coaching his son, Steven Davis II, in this the senior season, for Davis II….Steven Davis II, is a starting defensive back for the Dudley Panthers, and wears the jersey number/#2…..
