Reports and rumors that the Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds will play in next year’s edition of the popular Field of Dreams Game in Dyersville, Iowa, were confirmed last Friday by MLB.

MLB announced the Reds will be the home team for the showdown at the famous “Field of Dreams” site held on Aug. 11, 2022. Approximately 8,000 fans attended the inaugural Field of Dreams Game between the New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox last week that Chicago won via a walk-off home run delivered by Tim Anderson. The game nearly attracted six million prime-time viewers to Fox:

“We are honored to be selected for the second edition of MLB at Field of Dreams,” Cubs president of business operations Crane Kenney said for the prepared statement. “Given our long-standing affiliation with the Iowa Cubs and the fact the state is in our home television territory, the Cubs enjoy an incredible following in Iowa. We look forward to playing in front of our Iowa fans and expanding on the amazing success of the first Field of Dreams Game.”

Reds president and chief operating officer Phil Castellini added:

“The Cincinnati Reds are excited to be part of MLB at Field of Dreams in 2022. Following the outstanding presentation of last week’s inaugural game between the White Sox and Yankees, it’s an honor to represent Reds Country as the home team in next year’s game.”
