HIGH POINT, NC – The High Point University men’s soccer battled to a 0-0 draw on Friday night (Sep. 24) at Vert Stadium with Presbyterian College.

Zach Haines: “We did more than enough to win the game tonight but just could not find the finishing touch. Our guys did a great job of controlling the game and creating big chances, but It just didn’t quite happen for us tonight. We have 8 days until Gardner Webb so we will recover well, and continue to work towards getting to our best.”

Panther Particulars

The High Point offense started pushing early, generating four corners in the first 15 minutes of the match. A ball delivered in off a corner by Mason Marcey fell to the feet of Sebastian Chalbaud who volleyed it out of the air just missing the upper right corner.

Chalbaud created another golden opportunity in the 24th minute as his free-kick split the Presbyterian wall finding its way to the hands of the Blue Hose goalkeeper.

The Panthers kept the pressure on with a shot coming from Alessandro Sobacchi in the 29th minute forcing the Blue Hose goalkeeper to punch the ball out of play.

The Panthers outshot the Blue Hose 8-2 in the first half.

Sobacchi kept the score even at zero with a big defensive slide tackle to prevent the Blue Hose counterattack in the 55th minute.

Sobacchi started another strong attack for the Panthers in the 68th minute as a long ball found David Greene who touched it across the box to Finn McRobb. McRobb’s shot ricocheted off the post.

With 5 minutes left to play, Chalbaud found MD Myers in behind the defense, but the Blue Hose goalkeeper stopped the breakaway opportunity.

The Panthers kept pushing early in overtime with an opportunity coming off of an Alex Abril cross as he found Caco Fernandez at the back post.

Fernandez was found again a few seconds later from a Myers through ball in which he crossed to the back post but could not connect with another teammate.

In the second overtime, Chalbuad was found at the end of a long ball; his header went just wide of the goal.

Panthers and Blue Hose went the distance and ended in a draw.
