Danny Pigge’s Pigskin Preview with Round Two of the NCHSAA Playoffs

**********Round Two Football Playoffs this week for our Guilford County Schools:***********

3-A West
#14 Ledford(8-3) at #3 Dudley(10-1)
(Joe Sirera at this game in coverage for the News and Record and HSXtra.com)….
Updates on the Dudley-Ledford game on GreensboroSports Radio
Game broadcast with Dave Polaski and Drew Brackett on 600 AM WSJS…

Panthers vs. Panthers in this one…Dudley Panthers vs. the Ledford Panthers….

Looking at the Dudley Panthers’ offense and it is a strong and productive unit….
QB Jahmier Slade on the season going 69-117 passing for 1,551 yards, with 21 TD’s/3 INT’s…..Season Slade with 52 carries for 461 yards and 4 TD’s…Slade on the season with 2,012 Total Yards and 25 TD’s…

RB Michael Shaw for the season with 902 yards, on 87 carries with 12 TD’s…13 Total TD’s on the season for Shaw…

RB/SB Rory/RJ Baker for Dudley with 852 rushing yards for the season and 10 TD’s…Baker with 574 receiving yards and 9 TD’s…Baker with 1,496 total yards and 19 TD’s….Baker with 86 yards on kickoff returns and 116 yards on punt returns for 1,628 All-Purpose yards….

WR/PR Mehki Wall for Dudley for the season with 652 receiving yards, 158 rushing yards, and 617 punt return yards, giving him 1,435 all-purpose yards, plus 14 TD’s and 5 two-point conversion scores….94 Total Points…

Dudley would probably be in great shape with just one or two of their offensive weapons rolling, but Dudley has at least four of those offensive weapons that have been rolling, and the Panthers’ offensive line has been opening up the holes for Shaw and Baker, and K.J. Morehead and the O-line has given quarterback Jahmier Slade plenty of time to throw the ball, and that has allowed Wall to be productive, along with Baker in the receiving department…

The Dudley D-line, led by Jhyeem Pittman and Logan Wright, has been controlling the line of scrimmage all season long….Jeremiah Barnes has stepped up to become one of the top linebackers in the state, while Steven Davis II, Elvis Berry, K.J. Morehead and Shawn Seagraves have manned the secondary and made it like blanket, not allowing big or long plays, to burn Dudley deep….

The Panthers secondary will be tested by the Ledford Panthers’ QB Nathan Carr…Carr 144-226, for 2,126 yards with 20 TD’s/6 INT’s…Carr on the run for 131 carries for 668 yards and 11 more TD’s….Carr with 2,844 Total Yards and 31 TD’s….Carr is a star on the rise, he is only a junior…Ledford led in rushing by Alex Sanford with 841 yards, on 127 carries, and he has run for 11 TD’s…Sanford is only a sophomore, and he stands at 5’11/195….Top Ledford receiver is senior Owen Finley, with 49 receptions, for 779 yards and 9 TD’s…Also for Ledford, it is Nic Morgan, with 31 receptions, for 622 yards and 3 TD’s….Carr gets the Ledford Panthers rolling, and he has a strong support staff, to get the ball to….

Dudley will need to get all kinds of pressure on Nathan Carr on this night….Wright and Pittman up front, along that Dudley defensive line, will have to get in Carr’s face, and maybe just go ahead and force him to throw early….Make Carr speed up his progressions…

Both teams offensive lines will be on the spot in this game, and both teams of Panthers need time to make their offenses click….Watch the O-lines, and the one that has the most success, that team should go ahead and win this football game…We’re saying Dudley will be that team….

4-A West
#18 Porter Ridge Pirates(7-2) at #2 Grimsley Whirlies(11-0)
Grimsley has a multidimensional offense with senior QB Alonza Barnett III, RB Jeiel Melton, plus receivers Terrell Anderson, Tyson Resper, Alex Taylor and Nolan Albright….The Porter Ridge Pirates run the Triple-Option offense and that will keep the Grimsley defense on their toes, and they will have to be playing assignment first football…D-linemen take the dive man/back, D-Ends take the QB, and the LB’s be ready to come up and stick the backs running to the edge…Or something like that…The key will be to stay at home, and be sure to play your assignment….With Travis Shaw, Tamorye Thompson, Nick Richardson, and Jamal Jarrett up front, Grimsley should be ready to win that “line battle”…

On those Grimsley offensive stats, QB Alonza Barnett III for the season at 2,433 yards passing on 146-259 passes, with 35 TD’s/3 INT’S…Barnett with 3,250 Total Yards with 45 TD’s…582 rushing yards on the season for Barnett, with 10 rushing TD’s….

RB Jeiel Melton with 1,281 rushing yards for the season/14 TD’s…1,656 total yards for Melton on the season….Melton with 21 receptions for 375 yards and 1 TD…

WR Terrell Anderson now with 918 yards/51 receptions and 10 TD’s for the year…
WR Tyson Repser with 527 yards on 37 receptions and 11 TD’s…
WR Alex Taylor with 516 yards on 35 receptions for 6 TD’s…
TE/H-back Nolan Albright with 266 yards on 16 receptions for 6 TD’s…

Leading Grimsley tackler is Khalil Stimpson with 82 total tackles and Tamorye Thompson has 74 total tackles…All of those Grimsley defenders will need to get ready to start tackling a lot of Porter Ridge Pirates’ runners…

Porter Ridge with only nine games played due to some Covid issues down around Mecklenburg County, but they have run the ball very efficiently…But first, let’s look at the Pirates’ passing game behind their quarterback Myles Carroll….Carroll going 72-110 for 1,023 yards, with 11 TD’s/3 INT’s…

QB Carroll has run the ball 69 times for 206 yards and 6 TD’s…RB O’Marion Taylor leads the Pirates with 599 yards on the ground, on 97 carries, with 3 TD’s…RB Stephan Zayachkowsky with 501 yards, on 44 carries and 4 TD’s…RB Calen Jordan with 332 yards on 38 carries and 5 TD’s….Plus RB Danny Kennedy with 26 carries for 239 yards and 4 TD’s….Hard-running bunch, these Porter Ridge Pirates…2,115 yards and 25 TD’s on the ground, over 9 games…

Most of the state-wide football talk over the past couple of days has been about #1 Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers…Over on Campus Drive, at Grimsley High School, the talk could be centering around #2 Travis Shaw…#2 has some real work to do, to help the Grimsley Whirlies come through in Round Two..You look to #2 Shaw, and #22 Thompson, and Grimsley has two strong run/pass defenders right there for you….
Grimsley game, and Dudley updates available on GreensboroSports Radio….Murphy Wainer Game of the Week, on GreensboroSports Radio…Sprinkle Pregame Show at 6:50, and the SayYes Guilford Kickoff at 7:30pm….

Picks:
Dudley
Grimsley

Top Two left/remaining in Guilford County:
1)Grimsley
2)Dudley
