Grimsley has been the last five weeks game of the week. I think they playing football across town at Dudley.
A couple years back we had a straight run with Dudley…Two home games with Dudley, then on to Mocksville(Davie County), and then on to Charlotte(Charlotte Catholic), and then on to Raleigh for the State Championship at N.C. State…Hendon Hooker was a senior that season, and Dudley won the State Championship game…Won the State Title game, something like 56-0…Pretty sure Dudley was playing a team from Fayetteville in that last game, and the Fayetteville team had a QB who was like 6’5/250….
Hooker took off running in the second half up at Davie County and saved the game, the season, and the team…Davie County ran all over Dudley in the first half and led by two scores at halftime…Heck of a second half performance by Hooker in that second half…He ran wild…At Charlotte Catholic, Dudley got a scoop and score from one of their D-linemen and he went all the way to the House…Dudley won by I think, one TD…Real big battle, but the Championship Game was a blowout, to Dudley’s advantage, and it might have been that game where it rained all afternoon long, but it didn’t slow down Dudley….Also was in Raleigh with Dudley, when Emmanuel Moseley quarterbacked them to the State Title.. And was there when Ricky Lewis Jr. took them to the State Title at Wake Forest…I think Dudley won two straight in there somewhere….Lewis might have been able to take home two titles…I think James Tre Perry came up just a bit short vs. Boiling Springs Crest….That one might have been at Wake too….Was with Coach Davis and Coach Victor Floyd when Dudley fell to Gastonia Ashbrook in Raleigh, at N.C State, and that was when Ashbrook kicked a field goal to win, and the Ashbrook field goal kicker later starred up there at Appalachian State…
We have covered a few of these over the years, and we are trying to see what Grimsley is up to this year…They are the defending State Champs and have won 21 straight games…Have seen a lot of these games over the years…Was with Northern Guilford for 4 State Title games….With Page for three, and with Grimsley for one, back in 2005…Didn’t make last year’s Grimsley game in Chapel Hill, had a baseball game commitment and had to be there…You never know where you are going to be, you just hope you will have a shot…Almost forgot, with Northeast Guilford and Ragsdale in football State Title games too….
