Game Report on Southwest Guilford-High Point Central Boys Basketball

Final Score:Southwest Guilford 74, High Point Central 57

The Cowboys finally got to play in front of their home crowd in what felt like ages.

After taking a tough one on the chin last night to a very good Mount Tabor, Southwest Guilford hosted the Bison of High Point Central.

In last week’s matchup the Cowboys prevailed in the final minute for a tense road victory. This time around the Cowboys didn’t wait to the end of the game to play basketball. Southwest got closer to their identity and forced some turnovers and converted them to some easy looks. After shooting bleakly from the field in both of their first games, this time Southwest didn’t miss on too many of the easy opportunities that the defense earned. The Cowboys managed to get out early as the first quarter closed with the hosts up 17-4.

The Bison battled hard in the second frame and kept the Cowboys from running away and the half closed at 31-20.

The Bison continued the momentum in the second half and fought back into the game. The Cowboys lost their rhythm and efficiency on both sides of the ball, and the visitors took advantage. Knocking down shots and capitalizing on sloppy Cowboys’ decision making and the Bison twice cut the margin to only 6 midway through the third frame. Following a timeout, the Cowboys regrouped and finally found their grove back. Some hot shooting and better defense for the hosts just before the close, got the Cowboys up 50-40 going into the final stanza.

Southwest was able to maintain their momentum and solid play to start to pull away. The Cowboys completed the bounce back from last night with a solid 74-57 win. The Bison were paced by Zack Price and Tre Hill with 15 a-piece. Southwest was led by Amarya Huggins with (21, 3 Stls, 3 Asts, 3 Rebs), Troy Scarborough with (15, 4 Asts, 5 Rebs, 3 Stls), and Henry Giant with (10, 4 Rebs, 2 Asts, 2 Blks, 3 Stls).

The Cowboys next travel to start the very difficult conference play against a very good Page Pirates team on Friday night.
