Former NFL Quarterbacks who became professional football announcers

Lots of former professional football quarterbacks from the NFL who go on to become football announcers, and watching the All Madden Show on Sunday/Christmas Day, made me think back to many of them…

Many former Dallas Cowboys QB’s who went on to enter the broadcast booth, and at least two of them are at the top of their announcing game today…

Dallas Cowboys-Troy Aikman currently with Joe Buck on FOX and Tony Romo, working with Jim Nantz, on CBS..And you had “Dandy” Don Meredith from the past, who passed for the Cowboys, and even Roger Staubach did some announcing too, right after he finished his career with Dallas…Dallas is high-profile when it comes to those NFL football announcers…

From the Washington Football Team/Redskins you had Sonny Jurgensen and Joe Theismann hit the broadcast both on TV, and on radio, for Sonny…

From the New Giants you had Pat Summerall and Frank Gifford…Not sure if both were QB’s, but one of them played QB, and the other played RB…Also from the Giants, you had Phil Simms..

From the Philadelphia Eagles you had one of my favorite names, and it took me a while to come up with this dig…It is Ron Jaworski, who also played for the LA Rams…Jaws was a good one back in his day, as QB…Also from the LA Rams, you had Roman Gabriel, who made it to TV and he also did radio…

From the Kansas City Chiefs you had QB’s Len Dawson and Trent Green, who became TV football announcers…

From the NY Jets, you had Joe Namath and Mark Sanchez, and Sanchez is still riding up the ladder today, with FOX…

From the Buffalo Bills, you had Jim Kelly, who did TV for a while, and Jack Kemp, did some TV too…

From the Miami Dolphins, you had Dan Marino and Bob Griese…Bob Griese’s son, Brian Griese, also played in the NFL(Denver), and does TV football announcing(Monday Night Football)….

From the Cleveland Browns you had Bernie Kosar and Brian Sipe, who both did brief TV announcing work…

From the Pittsburgh Steelers, you have Terry Bradshaw, who is still keeping the fires burning on the TV announcing job today….

From the Cincinnati Bengals we still have Norman Boomer Esiason on CBS talking to us on Sundays…

From the LA/San Diego Chargers we had, and maybe still have Dan Fouts doing games for us…

From the Carolina Panthers you have Steve Beuerlein, who does TV and there is Jake Delhomme, who does Panthers’ radio…

From the Detroit Lions, you have Gary Danielson who did the NFL on television, and now Gary does college football for CBS TV…

From the Minnesota Vikings, we had Fran Tarkenton, who was a big name on Monday Night Football and on CBS back in the day…

From the Chicago Bears, you had Bob Avellini, who did some local Chicago Bears games on TV and radio….

From the Green Bay Packers, you had Bart Starr, who did TV for CBS, after his Packers career was over…

From the New Orleans Saints you have Drew Brees, who is doing Sunday Night Football work for NBC…

From the old Oakland Raiders you had Kent Stabler who did some TV games, as “The Snake” hit the airwaves….

From the San Francisco 49ers you have and had Steve Young, and even Joe Montana, who have been TV football announcers…And add in John Brodie too….John the former 49er did some good work on TV football announcing…

From the St. Louis Rams, you have Kurt Warner, who is doing TV football announcing today, his new movie, American Underdog, just came out this weekend…

Another one from the Minnesota Vikings we remember is, Rich Gannon…Gannon did a lot of work on CBS, over the years…

From the old Baltimore Colts, we have Johnny Unitas, who did TV work for CBS back in the day, and from the Baltimore Ravens, you have Trent Dilfer, who has a spot on ESPN…

As I was putting Dilfer’s name up here, it just thought of former Atlanta Falcons’ QB Michael Vick, who does TV work for FOX…

Add in Peyton Manning from the Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos, plus his brother Eli Manning from the NY Giants, to the list of NFL QB’s who became professional football announcers…
