Guilford County Schools:Early Dismissal Today and NO GAMES tonight/Friday or tomorrow/Saturday

from GCS/Guilford County Schools:

Good morning, GCS staff—

Due to winter weather and a recommendation by emergency management to ensure that buses are off the roads before 7pm, all schools will release one hour early today, Friday, Jan. 28.

Bell times are available on the website here: 2021-22 Bell Schedules

All extracurricular activities have been cancelled for Friday and Saturday. ACES will dismiss today at the regular time of 6 p.m.

Thank you and please be safe.

  1. As of 8:10pm, it has been nothing but light cold rain and drizzle. Temps around 41-38. Hindsight is 20/20, but the games could have got in tonight, especially the Smith-Dudley games.

  2. Could have started the girls game at 5, and then the boys game at 6:30, and we would already be home watching Friday Night WWE Smackdown….And many of us are on that right now…

The basketball games could have been finished by 8pm, and the gyms cleared and everyone home safe and sound…

  3. GCS is ridiculous

GCS blew this one. All weather models had no accumulation until well after all the games had ended. Schools had worked together to move game times up to ensure completion and safe travels. Now there are two weeks left in the season and some teams have 8 games to play which will probably lead to the cancellation of conference tournaments. Not to mention the ridiculous COVID test rollout this week that caused students to miss most of a class. As well as let everyone know who has and who has not been vaccinated which should be a private matter. So glad that the leadership in this county is changing and hope the school board has some major changes as well. GCS school system is a dumpster fire. And it stems directly from the leadership in GCS. Not the principals, assistant principals, teachers, coaches, assistant teachers, office staff, bus drivers, cafeteria workers etc…. Who are busting their tails trying to work around the obstacles created by the inane, clueless, self serving, politically motivated leadership that exists within GCS. With all the money that GCS gets from the State and Federal government there has not been an increase in the athletic budgets for schools in several years. And if the leaders in GCS do not see that athletic programs are probably the best dropout prevention program, especially at the high school level, then they are truly clueless.
