Dudley Panthers boys basketball forfeits game to Eastern Guilford on Friday night to avoid missing Postseason Play

Why did the Dudley Panthers boys basketball team forfeit their game to the Eastern Guilford Wildcats on Friday night??? Well, they didn’t have to forfeit the game, but if the Panthers played Eastern, then Dudley could have missed out on postseason play for 2022…

Dudley decided not to play the game, because if they played the Wildcats, it could have meant NO conference tournament for Dudley, and NO sectionals or regionals for Dudley…

Why was the final score listed as Eastern Guilford 2, Dudley 0….The basketball rules state that if a team is forced to forfeit a game, the opposing team(Eastern Guilford HS) will take that win, and the final score will be listed as 2-0, in favor of the team that received the forfeiture, and is now the Winning team…2-0 for a field goal counting for two points in basketball, and a 2-0 score is enough to win the game for you…

But why was Dudley forced to forfeit the game to Eastern Guilford??? Dudley had already played the maximum amount of regular season games allowed by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association, and if Dudley would have played Eastern Guilford, Dudley would have exceeded their game limit…And then if Dudley had gone over the number of games allowed by the NCHSAA, then Dudley would have missed their shot at any postseason play whatsoever….NO conference tournament, NO sectionals, NO nothing….

So, Dudley forfeits their Friday night game to Eastern Guilford, and in the process, Dudley’s season is not on hold….Dudley can play on, in the postseason tournaments….

We got the clarification on the Dudley forfeiture from Dudley alum Perry J. Saunders, who spoke to Dudley athletic director Art Wade, at Friday night’s JV game…
from Perry Saunders:
Dudley Boys couldn’t play the game against Eastern due to the NCHSAA Rules about playing only 22 regular season games. If Dudley had play played Eastern, it would have put them at 23 and a caused a Rules Violation and automatically kicked them out the playoffs.

++++++++++Dudley’s current record is listed on MaxPreps at (18-7) and according to what we are reading, the NCHSAA max games allowed for the regular is 22…It looks like you can throw out the Christmas Tournament games(3 games in the HAECOisHiring.com Tournament at the Greensboro Coliseum), and that would take Dudley down to 22 games…If they played the EG game, and it would have been official, it would have taken Dudley over 22, and had them at 23 games…..++++++++++

  1. Dudley apparently thought the Big Four Tipoff Classic only counted as one game. Clearly, that assumption was incorrect. Probably should’ve checked before playing Winston-Salem Christian “national” or QEA. Shouldn’t dignify either of those so-called “schools” by playing them.

When a “school” has to call itself Quality Education Academy, you know it’s quality in name only.
