For those heading to the Polls to Vote on Tuesday, there are still plenty of Questions surrounding the School Bonds on your ballot

Vote Yes or No for the passage of the $1.7 billion dollar school bond that will replace and repair schools in Guilford County??? Many of you have voted already, but for those who have waited until Election Day to cast your vote, and fill out your ballot(by ink pen), you are facing some big questions as you hit that poll hard on Tuesday May 17…..

Let’s begin to look at what is supposed to be done with that money(all $1.7 billion dollars of it)…..

from our Monday May 16 research:
The plan for the $1.7 billion is to fund 18 rebuilds, 13 renovations and 3 new construction projects, officials have said. There also would be new technology and maintenance.

The Guilford County Board of Education has developed a master plan that addresses more than 125 schools and facilities, starting with the replacement of Hampton/Peeler Elementary School and Erwin Montessori that were required after tornadoes destroyed those buildings in April 2018. The list ends with Northern Area Elementary School, which would require $26.8 million to replace.

Those tornado-driven projects are underway, as are others in Phase I, including the controversial move of Kiser Middle School onto property now used for sports fields at Grimsley High School.

Now for some of the questions that are still floating around, as the money-talk drives many to the polls, and will keep others home, saying if they don’t vote, the Bonds Won’t Pass…If you don’t want the bond to pass, you need to turn out and Vote No on Tuesday….

And those questions that still are lingering, and for some reason, many of these questions have NOT been answered, and quite a few of them can’t be answered….

One of the biggest questions I have is, 1)How can we trust the current school board to be good stewards of the taxpayers’ money???

So that question can be elevated onto another platform, another key level if you will…2)Has the current School Board proven they are good stewards of the taxpayers’ money???

This question should really be thrust onto the backs of the current Guilford County Schools Board of Education, and onto the backs of the board of Guilford County Commissioners….

Look at this way, maybe all of the blame should not be placed on the current Guilford County School Board, but some responsibility has to go somewhere, and this responsibility goes right into the area of Maintenance….Maybe not this current School Board entirely, but the blame must lie at somebody’s feet…

Big question for us all…3)How did they let schools get into the poor shape that they are in already???

The county commissioners have been touring the schools prior to, and during the Early Voting period, and from what the TV cameras showed us, many of the schools do look bad….

What did we do??? Over a period of the last 25-30 years, did they not have Maintenance Workers in place who should have been taking care of the Deterioration…Here we go, a good time to do some school study work…We have the word Deterioration…That’s de·te·ri·o·ra·tion, and we like to add in the definition, so we can drive home our points…Deterioration-the process of becoming progressively worse.

Wow, The process of becoming progressively worse…The schools have had money on hand over the past 50 years, and what happened to the Maintenance of our schools??? If you maintain the facilities, then they should still be in use, and should be usable…But, the critics say, the buildings are getting old, and they are falling apart…

Well, if you take care of the Guilford County Schools, and do the proper Maintenance as you go along, then many of our structures would still be operable…You take care of your car and it could last you 150,000-200,000 miles….You take care of the school buildings and they might last you for a long, long time…We have seen buildings demolished that could have been saved, and more demolition is on the way…

Tear down, build back….Now how soon before these new school buildings will need to be replaced??? If they are not taken care of and properly maintained, then the Guilford County voters will be facing this same dilemma sometime in the next 20-25 years, with a price tag that will be out-of-this-world…

4)Why don’t our elected leaders take better care of our schools???

It appears on the top of the surface, that our schools have been neglected, and if proper Maintenance had been applied, then our schools would not be in the shape that they are in now….

Maintenance….Or the lack thereof, is plaguing our schools…

5)So will the new schools, and the renovated schools receive the proper care??? The current schools have not received the proper care, in the past…How hard is it to replace ceiling tiles over the course of a school year??? Do it as they are needed, and not after the school is falling down…

Another big question is 6)Have we ever seen the $1.7 billion dollar school bond spending broken down….They tell us we are going to replace and renovate the schools, but at what price per project???

How many dollars are going here, and how much of that $1.7 billion dollars is going there???

Did anybody think to itemize how this money is going to be spent???

X amount of dollars to building New School A, X amount of dollars to building New School B, X amount of Dollars for building New School C….Can you give us those particular and important numbers???

And how much money per school, that is going to be renovated???

We need some kind of an Itemized List of where each dollar of this money is going….How hard would that be, and it might be out there somewhere, but I haven’t seen, nor heard, hide nor hare of it…

There are too many missing pieces to this puzzle…And maybe by late tonight, we will have some answers, but I do doubt it….

Lots of legitimate questions out here, and I hope we haven’t muddied the waters too much for you, but in my very humble opinion, the Waters Were Already Muddied….

Good Luck on Election Day, if you have not already voted, and if you have already voted, or if you have yet to vote, did we shed any light on the situation today?????

In closing, some of those key questions again:
1)How can we trust the current school board to be good stewards of the taxpayers’ money???
2)Has the current School Board proven they are good stewards of the taxpayers’ money???
3)How did they let schools get into the poor shape that they are in already???
4)Why don’t our elected leaders take better care of our schools???
5)So will the new schools, and the renovated schools receive the proper care???
6)Have we ever seen the $1.7 billion dollar school bond spending broken down….They tell us they are going to replace and renovate the schools, but at what price per project??? How many dollars are going here, and how much of that $1.7 billion dollars is going there??? Did anybody think to itemize how this money is going to be spent???

A big feature in our closing thoughts, we do believe in Maintenance and Technology….They are the keys to our future success/existence…..
