Pirates ‘Sizzle in the Drizzle’ as Reagan Neff scores Game-Winning Goal/Ava Richards with Shutout in Goal:Page tops Myers Park, 1-0

NCHSAA West Women’s Soccer Playoffs with State Quarterfinals from Page High School’s Marion Kirby Stadium:
Page Pirates 1, Myers Park Mustangs 0

Game-winning goal from Page, with Reagan Neff scoring the only goal in the game, with 18:31 left in the Second Half….
Shutout Win in Goal for Page Pirate keeper, Ava Richards….

Page moves on to the NCHSAA West Regional Semifinals at home, vs. Weddington….Weddington topped Charlotte Independence, 1-0, on Monday night…Page vs. Weddington now set for Thursday night at 7pm, at Marion Kirby Stadium, on the Page High School campus

On Tuesday night at Marion Kirby Stadium, the game was played in steady drizzle that fell on the turf/pitch for the entire contest/full eighty minutes…The first half was fairly even, but the Page Pirates were dominant in the second half…The Pirates kept the Myers Park Mustangs busy, and the Page goalie, Ava Richards, was flawless/perfect….

Page had several opportunities to score in the second half, with the Pirates failing to capitalize on a penalty kick at the 38 minute mark of half number two, and then the Pirates missed a wide-open shot on goal, with 32 minutes left in the contest…

But, Page did what they did best the entire second stanza of this contest, the Page Pirates kept the pressure on the Myers Park Mustangs..It looked like Page had total control of the midfield….Page kept bodies around the ball, and this defensive tactic was successful, as Myers Park had loads of trouble clearing the ball from midfield…

Page kept it clogged up and when Page needed space on the offensive end, the Pirates found it, and Reagan Neff made Myers Park pay when her shot hit goal, with 18:31 left in the contest…

The Page Pirates proved to be the better team on this night, and Page showed a great quality of character after they scored their game-winning goal…..The Pirates did not let up…Many times the opposing team will follow up after being scored on, with a very strong attacking surge, and they will try and get right back into the game…Page would not let this happen…After their lone goal, Page kept the pressure on Myers Park, and the Pirates would never let the Mustangs gain any momentum..

Excellent win/victory by the Pirates on Tuesday night, and it should make for a very fun environment, when Page hosts Weddington in the NCHSAA West Regional Semifinals later on this week….Thursday night at 7pm, at Marion Kirby Stadium…

Go PAGE PIRATES, and keep applying the Page Pirate Pressure….
[Page Pirates now (17-4-2) on the season]…

**********Key minutes from these Pirates and others on Tuesday night….Sienna Coker(tons of ball control in the middle of the field, and on the wings for Page)…..Olivia Doyoyo(did a super job of changing fields, and stopping Myers Park threats to gain ball control…She sets up plays on offense with her ball-control)…Chela Parris(helps run the show in the midfield, and she does a good job of working around the corners, saving plays and making plays with the ball..Big-time ball-control)…Madelyn Goas(excellent attacker, and knows how to help keep the ball on the offensive end of the field)…Anna Schmedes(Excellent mid-fielder and she takes key kicks, whether they be direct or indirect kicks, and Anna Schmedes’ height allows her to see and manunever around the entire field with near ease)…Reagan Neff(you think she is playing all defense, and then she sneaks in and scores the game-winning goal on the offensive end…She can play the full field, and I believe she is the sister of the Page soccer ace from the past, Tatum Neff)….Ava Richards(she got the shutout in goal, and she is only a freshman…What, that kid is only a freshman, and she was playing like a seasoned veteran out there tonight…The kid was hot tonight, and where will she be tomorrow??? Right back in goal, and ready to do it again)…..**********
+++++++++We also want to get Jonny Kate Harron in here…She was credited for the assist on the key Reagan Neff goal that won the game for the Page Pirates…Great job Jonny Kate Harron on crossing that ball that Neff rushed up and pushed/drove into the goal, for the game-winner…Again kudos to Jonny Kate Harron for setting this up and making it happen, on Tuesday night…++++++++++

  1. The match with Weddington is actually a 4-A West semifinal. Hough and Ardrey Kell are on the other side of the 4-A West bracket. Page would be on the road Tuesday, May 31, for a regional final.
