Hoppers’ hitters:Yoyner Fajardo only Hopper with two hits on Friday night, going 2-4/HR/RBI…Steak n Shake Player of the Game from the Friday night contest was Francisco Acuna, who shot a ground ball Double down the left field line, in the bottom of the seventh inning, and his two-out, two-run hit was a true highlight, from the Friday affair…Acuna went 1-4/Double/2 RBI…Acuna’s double tied the game, at 3-3…Jacob Gonzalez and Fabricio Macias were both 1-4, plus Abrahan Gutierrez was 1-3/Run, for the Grasshoppers..
Both starting pitchers threw well early, with the Rocks’ Seth Shuman going five innings, allowing 1 run, on two hits, 0 BB’s, and five strikeouts…Shuman left the game with his team up, 3-1, but he was unable to earn the win…The Grasshoppers starter, Jared Jones, was in a real nice groove early on, tossing shutout baseball for the first four innings of the game…Jones gave up 0 Runs, 1 hit, with two walks and four strikeouts, through the first four frames of the game…
Jones got touched up for three runs in the fifth inning, but he got the first two batters he faced and then the wheels came off of the wagon…With two outs in the fifth, the Rocks’ Jordy Barley walked, and he took second and third on a throwing error by the Hoppers’ catcher Abrahan Gutierrez that went into center field….Barley scored on a single by Cole Daily, then Daily came in to score on a two-run Home Run to left field, by Jose Sanchez…
What was once a 1-0 Hopper lead, now became a 3-1 Blue Rock advantage…
The Hoppers’ pitcher Jared Jones ended up having to leave the game in the fifth inning, after he got popped by a line drive off of the bat of Yasel Antuna…The hit ball off of Antuna’s bat hit Jones in the leg, and Jared Jones went down like a sack of potatoes…Jones got up, but he had to limp off of the field, and he left out after 4 2/3’s innings, giving up 3 runs, on four hits, with 3 BB’s, and five K’s, and he gave up the one home run, to Sanchez…
The game-winning came in the top of the eighth inning, when the Rocks’ Yasel Antuna took third on a wild pitch, and then rounded third and came on home on the same wild pitch, that nobody from the Hoppers pounced on…The Hoppers played it, like it was a dead ball…Hoppers’ Eddy Yean was in the game at that time on the mound, and ended up taking the loss, to fall to (1-2) on the season…
Only five hits from the Wilmington Blue Rocks, with Jose Sanchez going 1-4, with 2 RBI, on his two-run home run…Antuna was a total thorn-in-the-side for the Hoppers, as the Rocks left fielder was 2-4/Run for Wilmington, and he scored the game-winning run for the Rocks, in the top of the eighth…Cole Daily went 1-3/BB/Run/RBI for the Rocks..The Hoppers’ pitching staff did keep Omar Meregildo in check on Friday night…Meregildo had connected on solo HR’s on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, but on Friday night he went 0-4, and struck out swinging three times…
