Omega Sports Report:Some nights it becomes hard finding the Strike Zone, and you might just end up in the ‘Twilight Zone'(Hoppers fall to Tourists, 14-4, at FNB Field)

Final from Friday night at FNB Field/First National Bank Field:
Asheville Tourists 14, Greensboro Grasshoppers 4
WP:Chayce McDermott(6-1)
LP:Sean Sullivan(1-4)
Hoppers(27-39)/Tourists(27-39)

Tourists' line:14-12-1
Hoppers' line: 4- 3-2

After a smooth running two-hour and thirteen minute game on Thursday night, Friday night’s game at First National Bank Field, was anything but smooth…There were times when it looked we were watching the ball leaving the Strike Zone, and our baseball game was taking us into the ‘Twilight Zone’….

The Greensboro Grasshoppers’ pitching staff walked eight Asheville Tourists, and they struck out ten Tourists…When the Hoppers were good, they were oh so good, but when they were bad, the pitches were missing very badly…Starter Sean Sullivan struggled, giving up six runs on seven hits…Sullivan walked two and struck out three Tourist batters…Sullivan lasted just 2 2/3’s innings on Friday night…

Relievers Logan Hoffman and Michell Milano struggled, with Hoffman giving up five runs on two hits, and Miliano did him one better, or maybe we should one worse, with one inning from Milano, where he gave up two runs on no hits…Hoffman walked two Asheville batters in his inning, and Miliano walked three…You see what we mean, it was like we were entering the ‘Twilight Zone’….

Not bad pitching efforts from Jack Carey and Oliver Mateo in relief…We saw one of the better pitching efforts from Carey, as he lasted 3 1/3 innings, giving up one run on three hits, with 0 BB’s/4 K’s…Carey gave the Hoppers more innings than any other pitcher that threw for Greensboro on Friday night…Mateo worked the ninth inning for the Hoppers, and he allowed 0 Runs/0 Hits/1 BB/2 K’s…

Three of our Hoppers’ five pitchers were taking us toward the ‘Twilight Zone’ on Friday night…

The two Asheville pitchers that worked on Friday were much more effective than their Greensboro counterparts…Asheville had planned to start Chayce McDermott, but the gave the ball to Cole McDonald instead, and McDonald got the start…It turned out to be like a piggy-back start for McDermott, as McDonald went for the first four innings, and then McDermott came on and worked the last five innings, to complete the ballgame…

The Asheville Tourists duo of McDonald and McDermott, limited the Greensboro Grasshoppers to four runs, on just three hits…The Tourists’ delivery men walked ten Hoppers and struck out eleven…So even though McDonald and McDermott seemed to have the Hoppers’ number, they still gave up the 10 free passes on walks…McDonald, in his four inning stint for Asheville, gave up two runs, on two hits, and walked seven Hopper batters, while striking out six…McDonald also gave up a solo home run to the Greensboro Grasshoppers’ Fabricio Macias…

McDermott appeared to be more dominant than McDonald in Friday night’s contest, as McDermott gave up two runs, on just One Hit, with three walks and five strikeouts…

Overall with the Hoppers getting just one hit off of McDermott, and only two hits while facing McDonald, the Greensboro Grasshoppers only had a total of three hits on the evening…Just five hits for the Hoppers back on Thursday night….The Hoppers’ Hudson Head did draw three walks on Friday night, plus Fabricio Macias hit that solo HR, plus Ernny Ordonez singled and drove in a run, while Abrahan Gutierrez earned our Steak n Shake Player of the Game award, going 1-2, with a Double/2 BB’s/Run/RBI…The Grasshoppers drew a ton of walks(10), but they really didn’t lead to anything…

Coming up with just three hits is just not going to do it…Need more on Saturday and Sunday, as this homestand is quickly coming to a close/end…

Another note from Friday night was the 40 at-bats from the Tourists and only 29 at-bats for the Grasshoppers…Too many Tourists coming to the plate, and on one more note, as Asheville was posting five runs in the top of the seventh inning, two of those runs came on a ground ball to first, where Jacob Gonzalez fielded the ground ball and he came to plate with his throw, to try and get the lead runner, but his throw sailed on him, and it looked like Giant Gonzalez(from the old WCW) wouldn’t even be able to catch that throw from Jacob, it was like it was entering another zip code, or maybe traveling into that ‘Twilight Zone’…..

Bring on the short-term memory, and let’s put this Friday game behind us…Did that last week, after the Hoppers lost 22-2 to Hudson Valley on Friday night, and then Greensboro bounced back to win two games on Saturday afternoon/night, in shutout fashion…

Bring on Saturday night…

Friday night numbers:
Attendance:4,763
Time of Game-2:49

Next Up:Greensboro Grasshoppers vs. Asheville Tourists on Saturday night, at 6:30pm, at First National Bank Field…..
