Steak n Shake Players of the Game:Greensboro Grasshoppers’ Dariel Lopez with a Grand Slam home run in the bottom of the first inning, and Lopez ends up with 6 RBI in the game…Lopez on offense, and then Eddy Yean on defense, as our Steak n Shake Player of the Game…

Yean goes three innings from the Hoppers bullpen, and Yean closes out the game, allowing two runs, on three hits, while walking two batters, and striking out three Asheville Tourists..Yean pitched his way into a save situation, and he was able to close out the game, and finally sit the Tourists down for good, in the top of the ninth inning…Eddy Yean helped make this game a true adventure on Saturday evening, at First National Bank Field…

This Saturday evening contest was a true/pure adventure, as the Greensboro Grasshoppers fell behind early in the game, with the Asheville Tourists grabbing a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, as A’ville’s Quincy Hamilton struck out, but reached first base, when the third strike pitch was dropped by Hoppers’ catcher, Endy Rodriguez…Hamilton later scored that first Tourist run, as Greensboro starter Ricky Devito hit a batter, Francisco Acuna made an error at shortstop, and Hamilton came in to score, on the Acuna throw to first base…Hamilton had taken second base when Michael Sandle got hit by a pitch, and then Hamilton went to third base on a wild pitch, and scored on the ground ball to short, as Acuna gave up the run, while trying to get the out at first base…

The Tourists got their first run, and took their first and only lead of the game on no hits, but a HBP, and error, and a BB during their first offensive frame of the game…No hits in the first inning, and Asheville still found a way to score…

This would be the beginning of what we would call “The Adventure”, on Saturday night at FNB Field…The Hoppers got the Grand Slam(Lopez) in the bottom of the first inning, and Greensboro took a 5-1 lead to the top of the second inning…It began to look like the Hoppers were cruising, as they had a 6-1 lead at the end of the second inning….

But there were signs all over the place that this game would be “The Adventure”…A true adventure, on a Saturday night, in downtown Greensboro…For some reason, the Grasshoppers’ catcher Endy Rodriguez couldn’t hang on to ball on Saturday night…There were plenty of pitches that would end up going wild, but there were also an abundance of baseballs hitting Rodriguez’ mitt clean, and he just couldn’t keep the ball in the pocket of the mitt…The ball kept on bouncing out, or it was getting loose…A true adventure working there behind the dish/plate…Endy pretty much settled down back there as the Hops’ backstop by the middle of the game, but early on, it was an adventure back there..

More along the route, as The Adventure continued, we saw the Hoppers commit three errors in the ballgame….In the third inning, there was an error at third by Ordonez, and an error at first from Gutierrez…Just part of the overall Adventure, on Saturday night…

And as for the game scoring, it was an Adventure too…Remember that 6-1 Hoppers lead I was talking about??? Well, by the top of the fourth inning, that 6-1 lead was cut in half, and the scoreboard read, Hoppers 6, Tourists 3…But here is where the journey gets even more interesting…In the bottom of the fourth, Greensboro plates three more runs, and goes up 9-3…It was just about time to put this game on ice, right??? As our old pal Bart Simpson used to say, “No way man”…..

In the top of the fifth inning Asheville erupts for three runs of their own, and the 9-3 lead is now, just 9-6, Grasshoppers over the Tourists…Then comes the real juice…Asheville gets a two-out, two-run home run from Saturday night backup left fielder Kenedy Corona, and now the score reads, Greensboro Grasshoppers 9, Asheville Tourists 8…You talk about a journey….With what was once a 9-3 Hopper six-run lead, now The Adventure has seen the Asheville Tourists pull within one run of the Greensboro Grasshoppers…

Man, this Adventure is getting long, and tedious…But, after the Tourists cut the lead to one run in the top of the sixth inning, the Hoppers tack on four big runs in the bottom of the sixth, to move back on top by five runs, as the new score now shows, Greensboro Grasshoppers 13, Asheville Tourists 8…From 9-8 Hoppers, to 13-8 Hoppers, that sure was a nice boost for the home team right there…One more insurance run for the home team nine, in the 7th inning, and Greensboro can get ready to light up Guilford the Grasshopper’s cigar, with that new score of Greensboro 14, Asheville 8….

This game is over and done with and we will get on out of here, in a timely manner, right??? Here comes Bartman Simpson again, saying, “No Way Man”…The Asheville Tourists say let’s extend this last inning, and with two outs in the top of the ninth, they force Guilford to crush out his cigar, as ASHE gets back-to-back-to-back base hits, and the Tourists post two more runs, to make this look like a football score…Hoppers’ reliever Eddy Yean closes out the Tourists, and Asheville makes this end up looking like a small college football final score, as the Greensboro Grasshoppers end up topping the Tourists, 14-10…

On this Saturday night adventure/escapade, the Hoppers escape with their 14-10 victory….Hops’ now (2-3) vs. ASHE this week, with a chance for a split in the series, if Greensboro can find a way to get the win on Sunday afternoon, at 2pm…For the two-week homestand, Greensboro now stands at (4-7)…

A quick look back at the Hopper hitters on Saturday night….Sammy Siani 1-3/Double/3 Runs/2 BB’s/2 SB(This man is looking more and more like a true/pure leadoff batter every day)…Yoyner Fajardo 2-3/3 Runs/2 BB’s…Endy Rodriguez 2-3/Double/2 BB’s/2 Runs/2 RBI…Abrahan Gutierrez 3-5/Run/2 RBI…Dariel Lopez 2-5/HR/Run/6 RBI…Ernny Ordonez 3-5/HR/2 Runs/RBI…Jackson Glenn 2-5/2 RBI…Francisco Acuna 1-4/BB/Run…Fabricio Macias 0-5…
