West sweeps East in Monday night NCAA All-Stars Basketball Games at the Greensboro Coliseum:West women top East, 62-55/West men slip by East, 92-90(We have an interview with West women’s assistant coach Frank McNeil[Dudley HS])

The West is the best for 2002, as the Western part of the state of North Carolina, topped the Eastern part of the state, on Monday night, at the Greensboro Coliseum, in the North Carolina Coaches Association East-West All-Stars basketball games…

Final from the Women’s game was West 62, East 55….The West girls trailed the East, 17-8, at the end of the First Quarter, but by halftime, the West was within one point of the East, at 26-25…At the end of the Third Period, the East had built back up a 43-35 advantage, but the fourth and final quarter belonged to the West women, as they out-scored the East by 15 points in the last period of the game(27-12), and the West went on to win the game, 62-55…

Kate Hollifield, from Shelby High School, led the West in scoring, with 18 points, and she was named the Most Valuable Player in the women’s basketball contest…Hollifield is the cousin of former Shelby High School football linebacker, Dax Hollifield, who now plays for the Virginia Tech Hokies…Dax Hollifield is a big-time college football player, and it looks like his cousin Kate, will be a big-time college athlete too, in women’s basketball….She is headed to Belmont University, in Tennessee…
(The West’ Aly Wadkovsky(Lake Norman HS) with 15 rebounds, to lead her team, and the game, in that category)…

2022 North Carolina Coaches’ Association East-West All-Star Game
The West’s Kate Hollifield (Shelby H.S.) was named the game’s Most Valuable
Player.

In the men’s game, the West prevailed 92-90, but the East had a chance to tie the game with 3.2 seconds left in the contest and with their big center, 6’8 Jaxon Ellingsworth on the free throw line with two shots, and a chance to tie the basketball game…Ellingsworth was short on his first throw attempt, and since he missed that first try, he had to miss his second shot on purpose, and he did, but he failed to hit the rim, and the West got the ball side out/on the sideline, and threw the basketball in, and time ran out and the game was over…

Ellingsworth, even though he came up short on those last free throws, he was still named the game’s Most Valuable Player, as he finished the game with 29 points, and 18 rebounds…Ellingsworth is on his way to East Carolina University next…

The West men had some very balanced scoring on Monday night as we saw KC Shaw with 16 points, Jordan Crawford and Davion Cunningham added 14 points each, and Kyle Frazier pumped in 13 points to help out the West cause….Jemez Herd was the top West rebounder, with 10 big boards…

The West was up in this game, 30-16, at the end of the First Quarter, then the score was 52-39 West at halftime, and there were times in the first half of the ballgame, where you thought the West might necessitate the use of the running clock…But, in the second half, things got much closer….The Third Quarter score was just West over the East 69-66, and then in the Fourth Quarter, the East came all the way back, and they almost forced an Overtime Session to settle this game….

The West goes on to get the victory, but the East made them earn it….
