NCAA East-West All-Stars Women’s Soccer:East girls win 1-0, but West goalie Alexis Wolgemuth(MVP) wins too

Final Score from the 2022 East-West Women’s Soccer Game:
East 1, West 0
Halftime Score:West 0, East 0
Laura Westerbeek(Athens Drive Magnet School) scored for the East at the 25:33 mark of the second half, and the East go on to win this girls soccer matchup, 1-0…

But, the real story of the this game, was the West goalkeeper, Alexis Wolgemuth(Fred T. Foard High School)…Alexis made 17 saves of East shots on goal, and the East was pounding the West goal area with 30 shots in the game, as opposed to, just two shots from the West women…

Alexis Wolgemuth was facing traffic around the goal mouth all night, and although it is rare to see a player from the losing team, win the Most Valuable Player Award in any type of contest, Alexis took home top honors on Tuesday evening…

This kid won everybody over to her side…The buzz throughout the crowd over the course of the game was, that Alexis Wolgemuth should be named Game MVP, and in the end she grabbed the top honors…

It was some kind of night for Alexis Wolgemuth, and I was listening to what the crowd/fans were saying, and this is some of what I was hearing….
“This girl deserved the award, we should all have a new-found respect for her, and the job she just did”
“For what she did on that soccer field, she earned the MVP”….
“Not a better kid, Alexis as the MVP from the losing team, YES, so deserving”
“It was her game, and her saves, that made this game fun to follow, and fun to watch”…..

I was hanging among the crowd tonight, so I was able to hear what the fans were saying…

It was a terrific night for Alexis Wolgemuth, and she will be heading to Marshall University in the Fall(August) to join, and go to work playing, for the Thundering Herd..

Alexis’ mother, Jenifer Howard from back in her high school days at Fred T. Foard High School, her mom was a college basketball player and a great one for Coach Kay Yow, at N.C. State….

We met Alexis Wolgemuth, out among the crowd, after the game was over, and we had the chance to talk to her about her memorable MVP night…
