Omega Sports Report:Greensboro Grasshoppers with 7-6 victory over Hickory Crawdads, on Saturday night, at FNB Field(Four more Hopper homers, and E Rod leaves the yard twice)

Courtesy of Omega Sports, “Your Neighborhood Sports Store”, on Battleground Avenue, in Greensboro…..

Final from Saturday night, at FNB/First National Bank Field, in beautiful downtown Greensboro:
Greensboro Grasshoppers 7, Hickory Crawdads 6
WP:Jared Jones(4-4)
LP:Yohanse Morel(0-1)
SV:Cameron Junker(8)
Hoppers(38-49/11-11)/Crawdads(47-42/9-14)

Hoppers' line: 7-10-0
Crawdads' line:6- 8-0

Hopper hitters and here come those Hopper Homers:Endy Rodriguez/E Rod with a solo Hopper home run, and he followed that with a Two-run Hopper Homer…Rodriguez goes 2-4/2 HR/2 Runs/2 RBI…Jackson Glenn with a Three-run Hopper Homer, and Glenn went 1-4/HR/Run/3 RBI…Abrahan Gutierrez was 1-3/HR/BB/Run/RBI…Four of the Hoppers’ ten hits, were home runs, and they got another extra-base hit on a Double from Francisco Acuna…Acuna is a little man, at 5’6/140, but he is a “Doubles Machine”…His Saturday night Double, was his twelveth(12th) of the season…Acuna went 2-3/Double/Run…Dariel Lopez was 2-4…Ernny Ordonez was 1-4/Run…Yoyner Fajardo went 1-5…Those hits account for the Hoppers ten hits on the night….Also in the box, we saw, Jacob Gonzalez 0-2/2 BB’s/Run…Hudson Head 0-3/BB…

Our Steak n Shake Players of the Game from the Saturday night contest were, Endy Rodriguez, Jackson Glenn, and Hoppers’ starting pitcher, Jared Jones…Jones got knocked down, and got knocked around early in the game, but he got back…Jones was up against the ropes, but the Hoppers’ offense got some key runs for him…Jones gave up four runs in the top of the second inning, and after just two complete innings, the Grasshoppers trailed Hickory, 4-1…Jared Jones gave up two home runs in that second inning, a solo shot by Cristian Inoa, and a Two-run home run, by the Crawdads’ catcher, and their number nine batter, Randy Florentino…

In that second inning, Jared Jones was down for the count, and he was almost out of the game, but like all of the great boxers(Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier, George Foreman, Larry Holmes, Mike Tyson), and like the great pitchers from days of yore(Nolan Ryan, Tom Seaver, Sandy Koufax, Bob Gibson), like all of those greats, Jones got back up off of the canvas, and when the Grasshoppers gave him some runs, it was like he got a new lease on life…His ‘in-game baseball life’, that is…Jones stayed in and he was able to walk away, with the win…

Jared Jones went a total of six innings, and like we said earlier, he was almost gone after only an inning and two-thirds of work…Hoppers’ pitching coach Fernando Nieve visited Jared Jones out there on the mound, and after they had their “Meeting of the Minds on the Mound”, Hoppers’ manager Callix Crabbe was on the third base dugout steps, ready to come get Jared Jones, and have JJ ‘call it a day’…

But, skipper Crabbe never had to come get Jones, Jared Jones was doing his own a-tones, and he was able to stick it out, and he became a major force for the Grasshoppers, in this Saturday night win…JJ went the six innings, allowing five runs, on six hits, with a BIG zero walks, and five strikeouts…Domingo Gonzalez worked two innings, to give Greensboro the much-needed Hold, and then the Hoppers’ closer, Cameron Junker came in to work the ninth inning, with Junker striking out the first two batters he faced in Frainyer Chavez, and Keyber Rodriguez, and then Junker got Randy Florentino to line out to Hoppers’ right fielder, Yoyner Fajardo, who made an outstanding grab, as he was running toward the line in right, while he made the play to end the game…

You wouldn’t call this a perfect Hoppers’ pitching night, but it was strong enough, and it was what the Grasshoppers needed to win the game…Greensboro did leave six men on base, and early in the contest that seemed like it might be problematic, but in the end, the Hoppers did just enough, and they got just enough, to get the win…

For Hickory, they got their best offense of the night, from the bottom of their batting order…Number eight man, Keyber Rodriguez was 2-4 at the plate with two runs, and an RBI…Number nine man in the order, Randy Florentino went 1-4, with his Two-run home run…And the Crawdads also got that solo HR, from their first baseman, Cristian Inoa….

One of the more interesting Hickory Crawdad pitchers of the night, was John Matthews….Matthews threw well for the ‘Dads, going two and two-thirds innings, while giving up 0 Runs, on two Hits, with 0 BB’s, and 3 K’s, but what made Matthews an interesting sort was, he is from Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, the home of “Punxsutawney Phil” the famous groundhog that predicts the outcome/finish to our Winters every February 2, on Groundhog’s Day…

You never know what you are going to see, or hear, when you enter the realm of a South Atlantic League Baseball Game…This is the ‘Season of the Summer, in the SALLY’

Saturday Night Numbers:
Attendance:4,356
Time of Game-2:28

(Hoppers lead the Three-Game Series with Hickory, 2-0, and will be looking to bring out the brooms and finish things off, with the Sweep on Sunday.)

Every day, Omega Sports helps friends and neighbors lead active lives.

But growing a greater neighborship in our communities is at the heart of everything we do. We believe that staying active in your life requires certain essentials like reliable footwear.

Sadly, we understand many of our neighbors can’t keep up with their footwear needs.

That’s why 30 years ago, we decided to create Summer Sneaker Trade-In to help our customers help neighbors in need while enjoying savings on us to say thank you.

And even though we host this annual event, that doesn’t mean we haven’t seen thousands of customers happy to bring in their shoes every month for donation.

Each neighborhood store works with a charity or organization to provide donated footwear.
