Yankees place All-Star Giancarlo Stanton on 10-day IL with left Achilles tendonitis

The New York Yankees have been in cruise control atop the AL East essentially the entire 2022 season and enter play Tuesday as the best team in baseball with a 66-31 record.
While a lights-out bullpen, elite starting rotation and lethal offense led by AL MVP candidate Aaron Judge have received most of the fanfare, Judge’s fellow basher Giancarlo Stanton is also having a big season, at least in the power department. Though the 32-year-old’s current .228 batting average, .309 on-base percentage and .807 OPS would be career-lows, Stanton’s also collected 24 home runs and 61 RBI over 289 at-bats and 80 games thus far.
The two-time Silver Slugger Award winner and 2017 NL MVP was recently named an All-Star for the fifth time, his first time earning the honor since his final season with the Miami Marlins during his MVP season.
On Tuesday, Yankees fans received some bad news regarding the slugger.
Prior to tonight’s game, the Yankees made the following roster moves:
•Placed OF/DH Giancarlo Stanton on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to 7/24) with left Achilles tendonitis.
•Recalled OF Tim Locastro (#33) from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Stanton was reportedly going to be a game-time decision for Tuesday’s Subway Series-opener against the New York Mets, but instead, he’ll be out at least through the end of July.
