They saved the Wildest Game for the Last Game of the High School Football Weekend:High Point Andrews over Smith, 28-22, in OT

This game had a little of everything…Runs, passes, Overtime, fights on the field, and fights breaking out off of the field…Plus there were ejections and more emotions than you could squeeze into a large bottle…It all stayed bottled up most of the day, but in the end, High Point Andrews was led into the end zone, by their quarterback Timothy Ratley Jr., and he might just be the man with the top performance coming out of Guilford County this weekend…As it says in the headlines, FINAL:High Point Andrews 28, Smith 22 Overtime
(And did we mention the crowd, the crowd was HUGE…People from everywhere, all over town, were sitting in there on the Smith home side.)
++++++++++More on the game itself, which had more penalty flags than 26 Flags over Texas and Georgia combined…There were also a bevy of fumbles…Smith had the ball late in the game, with time running out and the score was tied at 22-22…Smith got all the way down to the Andrews’ 8-yard line and they fumbled the ball away to Andrews and HP Andrews ran a play or two, from their own eight, and ran a fake punt that got them way upfield, as time expired, but Smith was hit with a penalty, and that gave High Point Andrews great field position, to begin the overtime period….++++++++++
**********And did we mention the cramps, there were plenty of those today too…**********

Getting there:
Our pregame interview with High Point Andrews head football coach Mitchell Jenkins…We had not had a chance to reach him earlier in the preseason, but we got him today, twice…

In the Overtime period, High Point Andrews got the ball first and they began play at the Smith five-yard line due to a penalty on Smith, at the end of regulation…Andrews could not get the ball in on their first two downs/tries, but they received a penalty and were also pushed back to the Smith 7-yard line and on their 3rd down, they called Mr. Reliable’s number, and Timothy Ratley Jr. ran wide left, and he ran in for the HP Andrews touchdown…The Andrews’ two-point pass play failed, and Andrews had a 28-22 lead, with Ben L. Smith now ready for their set of downs from the ten-yard line…Smith fumbled the ball on a run attempt on second down in OT, and the Andrews Red Raiders recovered the Smith fumble and the game was over…Andrews wins it in OT….

CLICK BELOW for our postgame interview with the High Point Andrews head football coach Mitchell Jenkins, right after his team’s unbelievable victory over the Smith Golden Eagles, in Overtime…Coach Jenkins was nearly exhausted, but he stepped in and got it done….
Click on Below for the video….

Smith has a very solid running back in Jeremiah Royster, a steady QB in Gilliam, and their top athlete, in CJ Neely…The “do-almost-everything man” for High Point Andrews, was Timothy Ratley Jr. the Red Raiders’ QB…

Smith got on the board first in the game a safety…Andrews snapped the ball out of the back of the end zone for the safety…Smith up 2-0 with 6:28 left in the First Quarter…Smith gets a 6-yard run from Jeremiah Royster and then a two-point Royster conversion run to lead 10-0, with 6:05 left in the First Quarter…

Smith takes a 16-0 lead as their RB #17(Rayshawn Wilson) hits the end zone from 9 yards out, and the extra point kick is blocked, and Smith is in front 16-0 with 11:15 to go in the Second Quarter…

Timothy Ratley Jr. scores on a 60-yard run for Andrews, and Andrews gets the two-point conversion run, to cut the Smith lead to 16-8, with 44.2 seconds left in the first half…Ratley had close to 200 yards rushing for HP Andrews on the day…When he ran left, he could not be caught….

Halftime:Smith 16, High Point Andrews 8

Here he goes again, Timothy Ratley Jr. takes the football in from one yard away, and then the Andrews’ two-point conversion is no good, and now the score goes Smith 16, HP Andrews 14, with 48.5 seconds remaining in the Third Quarter…

End of Third Quarter:Smith 16, HP Andrews 14

Smith got a 17-yard touchdown run from their running back Joaquin Alston, and the Golden Eagles’ two-point run/pass fails, and with 10:47 to play in the Fourth Quarter, Smith leads High Point Andrews, 22-14…

Andrews gets the equalizer, when their do-all QB Timothy Ratley connects with his wide receiver Ja’shawn Harris, on a 66-yard TD pass and Ratley’s two-point conversion pass is good too, to Andrews’ Adam Reid, and this will tie up the score at 22-22, on 8/20/22, with 4:53 left in the contest…You see the OT results above, and we also highlighted that last drive by Smith, that got the Golden Eagles down to the Andrews’s eight-yard line, and Smith coughed up the ball, as time was running out…

Some people like singing that tune, “I think I just saw Halley’s Comet”, but today, I found myself saying, “I think I just saw Michael Vick Jr.”…And that ‘Michael Vick Jr.’ would be in reality, Timothy Ratley Jr., from High Point Andrews High School…

After being at Western Guilford on Thursday, at Page on Friday, and then over to Smith today, we have had this Guilford County High School Football covered like a blanket this weekend…Time to go get a well-deserved evening meal…

**********Next week you have Smith at Northern Guilford, at Johnny Roscoe Stadium, and High Point Andrews meets High Point Central, at Simeon Stadium, in High Point….**********
