Friday Night Finish:This is week is Gone, and next Friday is coming on, with Grimsley(3-0) going down to Southeast Guilford(3-0)

Both Grimsley and Southeast Guilford took care of business on Friday night, with the Whirlies topping the Pinecrest Patriots, and SEG taking care of their part of the plan, with the Falcons 34-14 victory over the Durham Jordan Falcons…
(Time to start getting ready for Grimsley at Southeast Guilford, next Friday night.)

We only had four of our Guilford County Schools teams in action on Friday evening, and our bunch went (3-1), with the lone wolf being the Smith Golden Eagles, who fell to the Randleman Tigers, down at Charlie Gregory Stadium, in Randleman…

High Point Andrews got their win over WS Parkland to go along with Grimsley and Southeast Guilford coming out on top…Our other two Guilford County Sports Connection teams, High Point Christian Academy and Bishop McGuinness both lost on Friday night, Bishop by a bunch vs. an unknown quantity in North Raleigh Christian Academy, and HPCA went down to defeat at the hands of Asheville Christian, by just two points…

But now, let’s hit what this night was really all about…Get these games in this evening, at SEG and Grimsley respectively, and then quickly turn your attention to Grimsley(3-0) at Southeast Guilford(3-0) next Friday night…

What would the early oddsmakers say about that game??? Are they saying, and are you saying in unison, Grimsley Whirlies by 7 over the Southeast Guilford Falcons??? Or, do you see it differently going into Bill Slayton Stadium for next Friday night??? This should be laid out, as one of the most hotly contested high school football matchups in Guilford County in recent years…

There is a lot laying out there on the table for this Grimsley at Southeast Guilford game, and I don’t even need to bring any of the issues to the table, as I don’t want to do anything to pull the table spread away from the table…But, mark my word, not much has to be said about this game going in, this game will be taking on its own special personality, as the Whirlies come driving into ‘Falcon Land’ next Friday evening…

The Bill Slayton Stadium may be tested to the max, as we expect the fans to be turning out to the max, to witness this very interesting meeting between these two Metro 4-A Conference foes…This game could be as big as it gets, at least going into the opening kickoff next week…After the opening kickoff, the players will probably settle in and give us a great show….

I know where SEG is coming from in a lot of ways…I have been riding that underdog label for many years, but I live in the Grimsley district, so I have to still need to show some major love for the Whirlies…For around 35 years, I lived in the Southeast Guilford School District, so I know the territory down there real well, and those are some great people living down there, in the Southeast Guilford neighborhoods…

I just hope the weather is good for next Friday night, and then we can just let the coaches and the players take care of the rest of the necessary business at hand…

As for this Friday Night Finish, I don’t have any of the numbers from the Grimsley game, so we will wait and try to get those coming into us in time for the Saturday Morning Rewind…Hopefully we can find some of those Whirlie numbers, from their win over the Pinecrest Patriots…

When you look at the Southeast Guilford numbers from the Durham Jordan game, SEG wins 34-14, but SEG should have won the game, 55-14, since SEG had three TD’s called back due to penalties…If I have this right, two of the TD runs were from Cam Williams, and the other came from TyShawn Wall…And these were not touchdowns where the runners were about to enter the end zone, then the whistle blew the play dead…

Both Williams and Wall were already in the back of the end zone, and their TD runs were no-doubters…The TD’s were called back due to penalties, and Southeast had way too many penalties in this Durham Jordan game, and I don’t care if you are facing Durham Jordan, Durham Hillside, Northern Durham, or Southern Durham, these penalties where you are taking points off of the scoreboard, those penalties will flat out kill you…I think it was 15 penalties for SEG in the game, and the majority of them were for HOLDING…Got to get rid of, and clean up and out those HOLDING penalties, if you are going to beat Grimsley…

Southeast will not be able to beat Grimsley if the Falcon penalties persist…Those yellow flags are a pest, and they must stay in the referee’s pocket, in order for SEG to have success…

As it was, Southeast got a TD catch of 35 yards by Cam Williams from Bryson Serrano, and a successful PAT kick from Aidan Bonde to lead Durham Jordan, 7-0 early in the First Quarter…Williams came right back and grabbed a second touchdown reception(53 yards) from Bryson Serrano, and the Bonde kick was good again, to put SEG up 14-7, in this contest…
The halftime score was SEG 14, Durham Jordan 7

SEG’s Mark Tillman began to till the soil on the Bill Slayton Field(7-yard TD catch from Serrano), as the second half action got pumping/jumping, and then Serrano came back and hit Tillman again, for another TD pass, this time it covered 20 yards…Aaron Brown and the SEG Falcon defense stood up, and Brown took and interception back 20 yards for a TD…Brown, not with a reception, but with an Interception…Aidan Bonde was 2-3 on second half PAT’s…SEG with a total of 34 points on the night, but like we said/told you upstairs there, Southeast should have won this game, 55-14, or maybe even let’s say the score should have been 56-14…Nobody’s perfect, but you have to strive for perfection, and we can say, and note, Southeast Guilford High School played a Near-Perfect game, in their victory over Dudley two weeks ago, and as we have seen this year already, it can be done…

I think SEG likes playing in that Underdog Role, and they also like playing with a chip on their shoulder…That makes them work harder to get, and to accomplish what they get done…

SEG got it done against Dudley, and is now the time for them to get it done, vs. the Grimsley Whirlies??? The time is now, and now we just have to wait a few more days, for Friday September 16 to get here…Just a few more days, and the Bill Slayton Stadium at Southeast Guilford High School, will be rocking…

From the Friday night win over Durham Jordan, SEG’s QB Bryson Serrano 14-20 passing, for 236 yards, and 4 TD’s…Serrano also with 6 carries for 40 yards…276 Total Yards for Serrano on Friday night…Cam Williams with 11 carries for 83 yards, and Williams had 6 receptions for 114 yards and two touchdowns…197 Total Yards for Williams, and we’re not sure how many return yards he had, but he was busy in that department too…Williams was also out there making the sticks and the stops on defense…TyShawn Wall with 17 carries for 91 yards rushing for Southeast Guilford…Mark Tillman with 3 receptions for 33 yards and two TD’s receiving for SEG…Southeast Guilford with 244 yards rushing, and 236 yards passing…Southeast Guilford with 480 yards of Total Offense vs. Durham Jordan…
(Stats and Numbers coming in from Don Tilley, at GreensboroSports.com.)

Our Steak n Shake Players of the Game, from the SEG-Durham Jordan game on Friday night were, Bryson Serrano and Cam Williams on Offense, and Aaron Brown, from SEG on defense…SEG did give up a 90-yard TD run by the Durham Jordan Falcons’ Amaeron Blue, and it was quite the show, watching Brown chasing Blue, on Friday night, at the Bill Slayton Stadium…Blue’s dad, AJ Blue, is a former college football player, for the North Carolina Tar Heels…Amaeron Blue is only a high school sophomore, and he has some real good years ahead of him, at Durham Jordan…

Grimsley at Southeast Guilford next Friday night, and we knew before the season even started that this would be a colossal/extra large game for 2022, and now with the way the two teams, the Whirlies and the Falcons, have begun the season, this game has grown into a much larger Metro 4-A Matchup…

This might become the Game of the Week, the Game of the Month, and the Game of the Year, all rolled into one…We have seen that happen once already this season, with Southeast Guilford going over to Dudley, and taking down the Panthers…

Can it happen again??? We are just six days away from finding out, let’s just sit back and enjoy the ride, as the anticipation for this Big Game, continues to build…

Are you ready?

He said are you ready??

Hey buddy, are you talking to me???

If so, Let’s Go!!!!!

  1. I don’t see Grimsley losing until the playoffs. Southeast can make it some what competitive but I don’t think they have enough.

  2. As someone who has coached a lot of the seniors on this Southeast in youth football let me give you all some insight on this scrappy bunch. They have always been undersized yet they have always been winners. They have a lot young men who are good football players with high football IQs. They have won on every level up until this point and aren’t going to be intimated by anyone. If you don’t go in and physically overwhelm them you’re gonna find yourself in a dogfight and their confidence, comraderie, and their aforementioned IQ just may have them pulling out the win
