Friday Night Finish:Several Teams get First Win of the Season Tonight, and First Play of the Game sets tone for Grimsley over Southeast Guilford

Lots of teams picking up their first wins of the season tonight…It was Ragsdale over Northern Guilford, 38-37, Eastern Guilford walloped Northeast Guilford 38-6, and Smith got in the big Win column, with the Golden Eagles’ 20-13 victory over the WS Atkins Camels…

Quite the productive night for many of our Guilford County teams…I mean Ragsdale winning, Eastern Guilford winning, and Smith winning…And Southern Guilford picked up their second win of the season, with a road win, at Rockingham County…

Dudley found success again, and it came at the expense of the High Point Central Bison…Dudley over HP Central, 49-0, and I thought that game would go 56-0, and I didn’t miss it by much…Northwest Guilford flew past Western Guilford, out near the airport, and by the time the NWG Vikings had landed, they were posting a 69-6 blowout landing..

The Page Pirates pulled out a real squeaker over at Southwest Guilford, with the Pirates pulling out a 10-7 Pirate ending…

High Point Andrews found life to be a bit hard-edged when they arrived at Reidsville…Reidsville roughed up the HP Andrews Red Raiders, 48-0…The Rams, are Ram-tough at home, at Community Stadium…It is their community, and they don’t take too kindly, to outsiders…

And for the last game of the night….Grimsley set the tone in the Whirlies 35-7 Metro 4-A Conference contest victory on Friday, on the very first play of the game…On the opening kickoff, with Grimsley kicking to SEG, Grimsley went with the pooch on sides kick, and the Whirlies recovered the football at the SEG 35-yard line…

Grimsley took over possession after that kickoff, and the Whirlies marched 35 yards down the field, and they culminated that steady drive, with a 4-yard touchdown run by their QB, Ryan Stephens…

That opening takeaway by Grimsley for sure set the tone for this game…Grimsley was ready to roll, whether it be by ground, or by air…And when Southeast lost their top Athlete, Cam Williams, early in this game, the Falcons were not really flying straight, they seemed a bit off-balance, and a bit out-of-sorts, with Williams missing…

Grimsley took the game, 35-7, but SEG did cut the lead to 21-7, with 42.5 seconds left in the Third Quarter, but the Falcons then saw Grimsley come right back at them, and Grimsley was there to finish strong, and they did…The Whirlies’ Khalil Stimpson took off on a 73 yard run late in the fourth quarter, and got the ball to the SEG 23, and then Ja’carion Maynard took it the rest of the way to end zone, for a 23-yard TD run…

Grimsley was missing/was without their top running back Mitchell Summers, who was sitting out the SEG game, after suffering a concussion in the Pinecrest game, last Friday night…With Maynard and Stimpson running the ball, Grimsley did not miss a beat, and as far as scoring goes, QB Ryan Stephens ran for three Whirlie scores….

Southeast was able to get the ball into receivers Mark Tillman and Khaleb Mosley’s hands some, but SEG QB Bryson Serrano was not able to connect with Mosley and Tillman for any TD tosses…Mosley really did a very good job of providing SEG with a nice second set of hands, in the second half of action…

On defense, Grimsley was throwing down SEG on some very hard tackles, and those rough and tough tacklers from the Whirlies defense included Khalil Stimpson, Jamaal Jarrett, Keshaun Jones, Bryce Davis, Fred Sellars, James Tyler, Andre Hill, Jalen Ashe, Nate Dupuis, Deon McLaughlin, Nick Caldwell and others…

We had Ryan Stephens as our Steak n Shake Offensive Player of the Game, and Khalil Stimpson, Jamaal Jarrett, and Bryce Davis loading up together for the Steak n Shake Defensive Player of the Game…That young sophomore, Andre Hill, was also really stepping up big for Grimsley on Friday night…

How did the numbers look??? We got some great numbers work turned in from our numbers man, Don Tilley…A great numbers man, is like a great or good photographer…When they get you their shot, it is usually a good one…Don Tilley, with some real good numbers from this Grimsley-SEG game…

Grimsley with 271 yards rushing, and the Whirlies with 130 yards through the air…Ja’carion Maynard had 17 carries for 100 yards for Grimsley, and Maynard had two TD runs…Whirlie QB Ryan Stephens ran for 97 yards and he had three TD’s rushing…Khalil Stimpson carried the ball two times, for 74 yards…QB Ryan Stephens was 11-16 passing for Grimsley, good for 129 yards….WR Alex Taylor had 5 receptions for 35 yards…Terrell Anderson came up with 4 receptions, good for 52 yards, and Nolan Albright caught two passes, good for 34 yards…

Southeast Guilford ran the football 29 times for 65 yards…SEG QB Bryson Serrano was 12-27 passing for 134 yards and he was intercepted twice…One interception for Grimsley’s Jamaal Jarrett, and the other came from the Whirlies DB, Deon McLaughlin…SEG RB Tyshawn Wall carried the ball 20 times for 57 yards…Elijah Davis carried the football one time for SEG, for 8 yards…Khaleb Mosley had 4 receptions for 58 yards, and Mark Tillman also came up with 4 receptions, good for 35 yards…

Let’s look at how the scoring went for the Grimsley at Southeast Guilford game….
Ryan Stephens runs for four-yard touchdown for Grimsley, and with the successful Jackson Henry PAT kick, Grimsley takes a 7-0 lead with 9:12 left to play in the First Quarter…Grimsley 7-0…

Ja’carion Maynard runs in from two yards out, to give Grimsley a two-touchdown lead, with 6:17 to play in the Second Quarter, as the Henry PAT kick was good again, Grimsley 14-0…

Halftime:Grimsley 14, Southeast Guilford 0

It’s Ryan Stephens again for Grimsley, as the senior quarterback scampers 13 yards for another Whirlie touchdown, and with the perfect PAT kick by Jackson Henry, Grimsley has themselves a 21-0 lead, with 8:53 to go in the Third Quarter…Grimsley 21-0…

Southeast Guilford gets on the scoreboard when the SEG RB Elijah Davis runs to paydirt from one yard away, and the Falcons add the Aidan Bonde PAT kick, to cut the Grimsley lead, to 21-7…SEG scored their TD with 42.5 seconds left in the Third Quarter…Grimsley 21, Southeast Guilford 7

They say the third time is the charm, and it must have been a charming night for Grimsley QB Ryan Stephens, as he crossed the goal line at Bill Slayton Stadium for the third time on the evening, with 10:23 remaining in the game, and in the Fourth Quarter…Another PAT kick from Henry, and the Grimsley lead bulges up to, 28-7…Grimsley 28, Southeast Guilford 7

With just 22.9 seconds left in the contest, Ja’carion Maynard zips across the line from 23 yards away, and the line he crossed was the goal line, and that made the score, Grimsley 34, SEG 7….After the Jackson Henry final kick of the game, the Final Score would read:Grimsley 35, Southeast Guilford 7……

Looking at the Touchdown Tally from Tilley:

Grimsley 7 7 7 14 - 35
