Danny Pigee’s Pigskin Preview and our Murphy Wainer Orthopedic Specialists High School Football Game of the Week

from Thursday night:
Eastern Guilford 43, High Point Central 0
Eastern Guilford(2-3)/High Point Central(0-5)

Tonight:
Ragsdale(1-3) at Page(2-2)
Both teams are (1-0) in the Metro 4-A Conference……
This will be our Murphy Wainer Orthopedic Specialists Game of the Week, on GreensboroSports Radio…Don Tilley will join us at the Marion Kirby Stadium for the call of the game, and it will also be Hall of Fame Night at Page HS, with several of their 2022 Hall of Fame Inductees attending the game…Page over the Southwest Cowboys last week, 10-7, on a 47-yard field goal by Tylar Elliot, as the game-winner…Ragsdale eked out a one-point win over the Northern Guilford Nighthawks, 38-37…Both Ragsdale and Page win in cliff-hangers/nail-biters last week…Page has not been scoring a ton of points, this season, with just one passing TD, and five total TD’s on the ground, but the Page defense has been solid “D” all season long…The Page defense has been keeping the Pirates in these ball games, and we should see more of the same, this evening…Ragsdale put up 38 points on Northern Guilford last Friday night, but Jack Mercer was missing from a lot of that contest, and that does not help the NG Nighthawks’ cause, but Mercer doesn’t play on defense, and the RHS Tigers put 38 points, on the board, vs. NG…The Cuyler kid from RHS caught two TD passes in the game, and he had a real boat-load of total yards…Page has the edge, since the Pirates are at home, but look for Ragsdale, to try and pick up where they left off on offense, last week…It will be up to the Page defense, led by Alex Jones and other Pirates up front, to put a stop to that effort…Don Moore will also have the Murphy Wainer Orthopedic Specialists Scoreboard running for us again tonight…Pregame(Sprinkle Oil Pregame Show) on GreensboroSports Radio at 6:45pm, and then the Shift_ed Kickoff coming up at 7:30pm…

Northwest Guilford(3-1) at Grimsley(4-0)
Both teams are (1-0) in the Metro 4-A Conference…..
QB Ryan Stephens for the Grimsley Whirlies, and QB Tanner Ballou for the Northwest Guilford Vikings…So far this season, Stephens the better runner, and Ballou the better passer…Both QB’s have excellent receivers in the Whirlies’ Alex Taylor, Terrell Anderson and Nolan Albright, while NWG looks to Trent Cloud, Bristol Carter, and Prince Brown…Grimsley is stronger at RB, with Ja’caorian Maynard carrying the load last week, in the absence of Mitchell Summers, but Grimsley has a Khalil Stimpson back there in the backfield, when necessary/needed, and tackling Stimpson, is almost like trying to tackle a wild bull, and he is faster than a young calf…Grimsley has that edge at running back with the ones we mentioned and don’t forget how strong QB Ryan Stephens has been in recent weeks, when toting the seed/rock/football…Grimsley may want to load it up and run it much of the night, and if they do that, it will tire out the Northwest defense, as they try and maintain full chase mode…NWG has Mike Godette, and Ryan Debow at RB, but it is going to be tough to try run against Jamaal Jarrett(6’6/355) and Andre Hill(6’3/315) up front, and Grimsley will also have defenders Bryce Davis and Stimpson breathing down the Vikings necks…This will be a battle, and will NWG have time to get their passes off, and will Walt Turner have enough help along the NWG offensive line to keep the Whirlies out of the NWG offensive backfield, and out of Tanner Ballou’s face??? Here we go….Taylor stays busy for Grimsley, since he is also the Whirlies punter…Henry is the Grimsley kicker, and he loves that high pooch kickoff in all game situations…

Northern Guilford(2-2) at Southeast Guilford(3-1)
NG(0-1) Metro and SEG is (0-1) Metro…
We were at this game last year, and that was our first opportunity to see Jack Mercer, the NG QB, and he has been strong ever since…Mercer did have miss parts of the NG-Ragsdale game last week, and we are not completely sure of his status for this week…It may be a game-time decision if he is able to go, we do not know for sure…And the same applies for SEG Athlete Cam Williams, who had to leave the Grimsley game last week, after was thrown down during a hard Grimsley tackle…SEG missed Williams vs. the Whirlies, and they need him back in the Falcons’ lineup to make the Falcons a full force in the Metro…The same can be said for NG, they need Mercer at QB1 too…Both of these teams need their top players, Mercer(NG) and Williams(SEG) to be major players in this year’s Metro 4-A race…SEG did find out that Khaleb Mosley can be a solid receiver for the Falcons this season…Mosley is a go-to man in the makings…Been hearing and seeing great things coming from Roman Garofola, along that Nighthawk defensive line…

Western Guilford(0-4) at Southwest Guilford(2-2)
SWG and WG both are (0-1) in the Metro…
Demetri Morrison will be at this game for us on GreensboroSports Radio…Demetri will be on the scene at “The Ranch”, there in High Point, as the Hornets meet the Cowboys…Western has been shut out in all four of their games this season…SWG will try to keep that mark in tact, and not give WG a chance to get on the scoreboard…SWG has a very solid defensive unit, led by Hunter Kane, at LB…SWG has had Corbin Wilson and Cale Lloyd splitting time at QB, but Darius Hairston has been steady at WR, all season long…If the SWG team comes ready and focused to play, it could be another long night for the WG Hornets…WG needs players stepping up, but we haven’t seen anybody ready to take on that leadership role so far, for the Hornets…

Northeast Guilford(3-1) at Southern Guilford(2-2)
SG (1-0) Mid-State 3-A Conference, and NEG at (0-1)…Southern got 200 yards rushing and 4 TD’s last week from their top RB Rydell Herbin…Herbin is almost like a lumberjack on the football field…On defense, he just keeps cutting them down, stopping the run, and rushing the passer, and on offense, he saws right through the opposing defenses and makes them pay, along the way…Herbin, Jamias Ferere, Conner Fields, SG has found a steady connection from these young men, in recent weeks…NEG needs to get back to the Rams’ winning ways…NEG got exposed last week, in the Rams loss to the Eastern Guilford Wildcats, and Northeast needs this win, this week, to get back into some sort of playoff contention, and everybody wants to be in some sort of playoff contention by Week Six of the season…

WS Atkins(1-2) at Dudley(2-2)
Dudley at (1-0) in the Mid-State 3-A and Atkins at (0-1)…
Dudley topped HP Central, 49-0 last Friday night, and the Panthers are back to being a winning unit again…Two TD receptions for WR Nasir Newkirk last week, and he got both of them from junior QB Andrew Attmore II…Dudley is off and running again, and the Panthers should roll this week…Smith knocked off Atkins, last week, 20-13…

Smith(1-3) at Rockingham County(1-3)
Smith at (1-0) Mid-State 3-A and ROCK at (0-1)…
Smith over Atkins last Friday night, and the ROCK fell to the Southern Guilford Storm…Hard to find a way to even this game out…Smith should be the favorite coming off of a win, and the ROCK lost at home to SG…CJ Neely with 366 receiving yards for Smith this season, and he has a load of punt return/kickoff return yards too…Emmanuel Gilliam can run and pass from his QB spot, and Jeremy Royster is a very capable Smith RB…Starting to like Smith more and more, in this matchup…

McMichael(4-1) at High Point Andrews(3-2)
McMichael is one of the most improved teams in our area, and if this game were being played on the campus at HP Andrews, I would be leaning heavily toward the HPA Red Raiders…Get the opponents in the neighborhood, and you might get them intimidated, but in the wide-open spaces at Simeon Stadium, in High Point, I am not so sure…QB Timothy Ratley Jr. still is the appointed and anointed leader of the Red Raiders, but he is going to need to get some help in this one..I can see MAC getting to the ball quickly, and doing many team oriented things to help make them be in this game…Andrews will need a total team surge to purge the Phoenix…

WS Carver(1-4) at Bishop McGuinness(1-4) 7pm
This is truly a winnable game for the Villains of Bishop McGuinness…Carver has fallen on some hard times in recent years, and you have to feel if the Bishop can get their offense moving, then they have a great chance to claim the win, there in Kernersville…

High Point Christian(3-1) at Covenant Day School(4-0) 7pm
Going to have to lean on Covenant in this one…Like opponents show HPCA losing to Asheville Christian, 33-31, and Asheville Christian lost to Covenant, 36-30…Covenant should be 8 points better than High Point Christian, and the game is on the road, at CDS…And that is all we have to go by for right now…Just got to look at those head-to-head odds, and that is all we can do…
