10 thoughts on “The Final 2022 NCHSAA High School Football Playoff Brackets have arrived, and they are ready for your inspection

  1. The word was it was all about the Strength of Schedule, and they do this seeding, using the RPI System…

From the reports we heard it is regarded that Grimsley’s Metro 4-A Conference schedule was stronger than East Forsyth’s Central Piedmont Conference schedule…Metro 4-A stronger than the CPC…

Both teams were (10-0) and many feel that Northwest Guilford(Metro 4-A Conference) gave East Forsyth one of their toughest tests of the season…Taking that thought one step further, Grimsley defeated NWG much more handily than East did, in their win over NWG…
(In this case, looking at strength of schedule, vs. like opponents.)

The word that keeps going around is that it is all about the math, and that the math don’t lie…

Could turn out that East is a better overall team than Grimsley in the long run, but going into the playoffs, the ultimate math favoring Grimsley in the seeding process, has won out in this case…

  2. I love quick witted short memory comments. Grimsley got a 2 seed last year and didn’t take advantage. They were a 1 seed by far. If you’re an EF fan calm down. This is the politics of the committee every year. Just win baby!!!!…it takes care of everything.

  3. There isn’t a committee, the RPI and seedings are pretty set in stone….I don’t get what all the fuss is about?? Is RPI perfect, no. But its very transparent and shows you exactly where you stand. This system is much better than the previous one where it was all subjective and nobody knew how the seeds were even selected.

  4. People talking about politics and committees are beyond clueless. It’s simple math (who you play matters most) and the RPI formula is explained in detail on the NCHSAA’s website, but that would require reading and math skills that some people clearly do not have.

EF looks like the best team in the state, but their conference sucked this year, with only three teams with winning records, so that’s why the Eagles were seeded fourth. It also didn’t help that Northwest Guilford turned out to be the best of EF’s non-conference opponents.

Don’t worry about the seeds, just win. East beat Grimsley at Jamieson in 2019. Did it matter then? The only difference is it would be a regional semifinal this time and not a final.

  5. One thing that sort of sticks out is with the current playoff system, it looks like you have to play six games total to win a State Championship…

That is a long playoff season….Used to be it was a four-game playoff season, and then it was extended to five games….And now it is six….That is over half of a high school regular season….

Just saying, six is a long playoff season….It think back in the day of the two-tier system, with the 4-AA, 4-A, 3-AA, 3-A etc. it must have still been five games then, but with six games now, you are talking a long way/ride to the Championship Trophy Table in the middle of December…

  6. Any hope the two-tier system will return?
Does East Forsyth being open enrollment have an unfair advantage?

  7. Also not sure how Watauga is seeded higher than East Forsyth. End of the day survive and advance regardless . Win or go home.

  8. Don’t see the two-tier system returning any time soon…

This gives the NCHSAA the ability to run the playoffs with a few less games to work, not having four extra levels of play, while still having Six rounds of games where they can generate almost the same amount of overall revenue, with less hours of work…

In the end it comes down to time spent working, vs. the amount of net gained revenue…

Strength of Schedule seems to favor Watauga in two of their non-conference games…Watauga defeated (7-3) TC Roberson and (9-1) Maiden, losing to powerhouse Lawndale Burns…East Forsyth defeated (7-3) Rolesville and (4-6) South Iredell…The two wins by East Forsyth, were not as strong as the two wins by South Iredell…

Just an observation, and the rest of that story is, East Forsyth defeated a very tough Northwest Guilford team, 49-38, while Watauga lost to the powerhouse Burns, 48-28…East did not close out NWG until last in that game, at East Forsyth HS, in Kernersville…
