Is Greensboro Grimsley destined to win the 4-A Football State Championship??? Khalil Stimpson, Chris Young, Mitchell Summers and Jackson Henry keep that Destiny Alive!!!(Add Jamarie Davis to list of Whirlies Ringing the Bell)

Is it the Greensboro Grimsley Whirlies’ destiny to win the NCHSAA 4-A Football State Championship??? Not sure if it will play out that way, but boy, they have certainly been playing like they are dead-set on Winning that Title, and then bringing it back to Greensboro….

Grimsley is one step closer to the Destiny becoming a Reality…Next Friday night in Chapel Hill, the Greensboro Grimsley Whirlies(15-0) will meet the New Bern Bears(15-0) for the 4-A Football Title…It really doesn’t get any better than this…

And for these boys/young men playing with Greensboro on the front of their jerseys, this is about as good as it can get…This will be like Christmas morning showing 2 weeks early on the calendar…And the excitement is brewing like a big cup of hot chocolate, as the Championship Night approaches…Next Friday night at Kenan Stadium, on the University of North Carolina campus, there in Chapel Hill, N.C., Greensboro Grimsley will again go for the Gold…
(7pm Kickoff from Kenan Stadium, in Chapel Hill.)

And since they are on their way there, how did they get there???
(Got word early this morning/Saturday morning, that Jamarie Davis, the Grimsley LB, blocked that Weddington extra point last night…That was a huge block, and we add that, and Jamarie Davis, to the list of Whirlies who are ringing the Victory Bell here this morning.)

Last week, after Grimsley pulled off that stunning 40-37 Triple Overtime victory over Cornelius Hough, the Whirlies came back tonight/Friday night, and they won out over Weddington, 28-27 in regulation…

A three-point win in Triple Overtime last Friday night, and then the Whirlies come back and take a nail-biter this week…The Weddington game went back-and-forth, before Grimsley blocked a late Weddington Warriors field goal attempt, and then after the long blocked field goal return, Grimsley went on to score on Mitchell Summers’ 7-yard TD run…That made the score 27-27, and then with the Jackson Henry/John Henry PAT Kick, Grimsley goes on to win the football game, 28-27…

For the Hough game we had Jackson Henry as the Steak n Shake Offensive Player of the Game, for his FG to win the game in Triple OT…We had conversation for Jackson Henry to be the next Mayor of Greensboro…Tonight we set aside our legal affiliations and cast a vote for Khalil Stimpson for Guilford County Sheriff…And we want to put a vote in for Chris Young to become his top Deputy Sheriff…

Greensboro Grimsley’s Stimpson for Sheriff, and Young for Deputy Sheriff, and you may ask why…Weddington had the football on fourth down, down around the Grimsley 19-yard line and Weddington set up to try a 29-yard FG on fourth down…But, the Whirlies broke through and blocked the potential Weddington Warriors’ field goal by kicker Everett Scott….Stimpson broke in there and he blocked that Weddington field goal, and Chris Young picked up the loose football and returned it around 40 yards to put Grimsley into great field position, in Weddington Warrior territory…And to top things off, Weddington was assessed a 15-yard penalty on the return, and that pushed Grimsley to down around the Weddington 20…

Stimpson for Sheriff, and Young for Deputy Sheriff…Last week it was Jackson Henry for Mayor, and this week why not Stimpson and Young for sheriff and deputy sheriff…We should at least give them the Steak n Shake Awards for Defensive Players of the Game…If Stimpson doesn’t block that field goal, and if Young doesn’t get that super scoop and return, we might be talking about a different outcome to this game…

As it is, Greensboro Grimsley comes out with the 28-27 “W” for the Whirlies…And after the Stimpson and Young heroics, Mitchell Summers had to score that running touchdown from 7 yards out, to tie the game at 27-27 and he did…Summers for the Steak n Shake Offensive Player of the Game…And then comes the Jackson Henry/John Henry PAT kick…Jackson put his John Henry on this one, maybe now the biggest kick of his career, and his kicks keep on getting bigger and better, each and every week…Henry also for a Steak n Shake Player of the Game award…

On that last key TD drive, Grimsley also got a big pass from Ryan Stephens to Alex Taylor to help set up the Summers game-tying TD run…In fact earlier in the third quarter, Grimsley had taken a brief 27-21 lead over Weddington, when Ryan Stephens threw a pass, and then he had the pass batted back to him by a Weddington defender, and then he threw it again to Ja’carion Maynard for a TD pass, but the officials took those points off of the board, and because the QB can’t throw another pass after his first pass is sent back to him…So that Grimsley 27-21 lead was short-lived…

Early fourth quarter, Weddington took a 27-21 lead on Grimsley, before Stimpson and Young stepped in and made sure Greensboro Grimsley would not be left home for the State Championship Game…Again, if Stimpson doesn’t block that field goal, Grimsley probably would not be playing high school football again next week…One of the biggest plays that you will see and hear about this season…

We were saying on the broadcast at that particular stage of the game, “If Grimsley could hold/just keep Weddington out of the end zone, and force a field goal on fourth down, Grimsley might have a chance”….And here comes Khalil Stimpson and he blocks Everett Scott’s field goal attempt…Stimpson, at 6’0/215 was a bigger man than all of that on this special night, when the Greensboro Grimsley Whirlies won the NCHSAA 4-A West Regional Championship, on their home field, at Jamieson Stadium…

Again, we give credit where credit is due, and that credit goes out on this early Saturday morning to Khalil Stimpson, Chris Young, Mitchell Summers, and to Jackson Henry…All of the Greensboro Grimsley Whirlies deserve all of the credit in the world, but you have to stop for a moment and just tip your cap to Stimpson, Young, Summers and Henry…

Some of the key players on Friday night at Jamieson Stadium, where the Greensboro Grimsley Whirlies knocked off the Weddington Warriors for the NCHSAA 4-A West Regional Football Title…

  1. Yes sir on Alex Taylor…He filled in at DB for Frederick Sellars and did an outstanding job…Also need to add in big-time props for Jamarie Davis, as he was The Man that blocked the Weddington extra point…

Taylor, Davis, and let’s keep adding to that list of Whirlies who got it going on last night…Ja’carion Maynard with some very big runs for the Whirlies too…

Just a wild night, at out the ole Bob Jamieson Stadium…

Last week was full of memories, and this week the memories come pouring in too….The BOB, as in the BOB outdoors, as opposed to The BOB, as in the Bob Sawyer Gymnasium indoors, those Grimsley facilities are getting some in some great games, here in the year 2022….
