  1. @Wow what a joke Stephens not POY. Kid was best player in area this year, but not in his own league? Got some petty people coaching kids now a days

  2. Hey all,
Grimsley had a great year with all that talent. No question. They have a talented group of players and coaches and should be a force again next season with much of that talent coming back. Metro 4A surprised a lot of people this fall season especially down in charlotte. So did NW Guilford. Not sure your intentions saying “what a joke”, “petty people coaching etc..’ As I said, Grimsley had a great season. At the beginning of the season no one picked NW to finish where they did and get deep into the playoffs. A big part of their success was my son, along with great coaching and great teammates. Tanner got hurt and out for the season during the 3rd round. Was truly devastating for him, the team and my family. But I am glad the Metro 4A coaches recognized him as off player of the year was well deserving in their eyes along with Jamaal Jarrett and Aidan Bonde, Tylar Elliott and Coach Brown. Again, this is not a post critiquing anyone, would love to just read about how great a year NW had and Grimsley and leave it at that folks, while appreciating what my son and NW did. All the best to every team in the Metro 4A this winter and spring, lets brig home some titles…

  3. All voting was done after the last game of the regular season….The coaches meet on the Saturday after the last Friday night regular season game…

Doing the voting early like that can sometimes make an overall difference…

The All-Conference teams can not be released until every team in the conference has completed their season…Grimsley finished up with their season last Friday night, and that is whey the Metro 4-A All-Conference Football team was released this week…

  4. Ryan Stephens conference numbers (according to MaxPreps): 1568 total yards/ 22 TDs/ 1 INT/ 62.9% completions/ 139.7 QBR — (7-0 record)

    Tanner Ballou conference numbers (according to MaxPreps): 1506 total yards/ 22 TDs/ 7 INT/ 57% completions/ 109.6 QBR — (6-1)

Both young men had great years. I think at the minimum, they should have been Co-POY… We will see who is selected to be the Area POY in the News and Record. Should be between these 2 again…

  5. So there’s nothing for being the best all around athlete in the area so Cameron Williams couldn’t be special teams player of the year apparently no one has seen him play when coaches don’t throw at him don’t run at him won’t kick to him won’t punt to him and adjust defenses stop him on offense I’m just saying , most complete and best football player in the area for 4 years that’s offense defense and special teams maybe it’s time to answer player something

  6. The last time someone threw for over 2,000 yards and rushed for over 1,000 yds in the Metro-4a was Hendon Hooker….pretty good company!! C. Williams from SE definitely in the conversation for best special teams player I would think…

  7. Congratulations to all these athletes! Well done young men!!!
My only other comment is please correct my grandson’s name. It’s DEVIN Hackstall.

  8. Corrected the Devin Hackstall spelling…Copy came in as is, and we pasted to this page, but we are ready to make any necessary corrections, just let us know…

Got to be sure to lay off any of the personal attacks, you can feel free to attack us as in me/Andy here at GreensboroSports.com if you like, but lay off any personal attack to other commenters and do not bash any of our players, they are just kids, and need to be left alone to grow up in a more peaceful manner…It his hard enough going out there and getting in all of the practice work, to go along with their school work each day…

Like I was saying earlier, the voting is done at the very end of the Regular Season, and is based on the stats that are available then…There is no consideration based upon what the players do in the postseason…The coaches vote on that Saturday morning, after the last Friday night regular season football games…

When you are voting for MVP and pretty much it can be the same for the coaches as they vote for the All-Conference players too…You nominate players from your team for All-Conference and then you vote for players from the other teams, you don’t vote for your own players…You may have five to six picks for example, but you will vote players for All Conference and they must not be from your team…You nominate the guys you want to get on there from your team, and then you select and vote for the players from the others teams….

Again, all of the numbers that the coaches would take into consideration are Regular Season Numbers…

They should look maybe at having a Kicker of the Year, and choose from Punters, Kickers and any PAT kick men…Then also name a separate Special Teams man, who returns Kickoffs, Punts, and even covers on Kicks…

Just trying to paint the picture so everyone will know where we are coming from, and we will have to wait and see, where we are headed…

Headed over to Smith HS on Thursday at 2pm, and that will be when Smith will announce who their new head football coach will be…Northwest Guilford is now in the Selection Portal, and their new man should be coming along soon…

Next up we are getting ready to start/begin our Voting for our Steak n Shake Players of the Year…

Let us know who your picks are….We will get it rolling later on this afternoon….Be sure to check it out, here at the site…Steak n Shake Players of the Year…

  9. Congrats to all these young men. Andy i hear you on the reg season only so the qb comparison above does include Stephens’ playoff stats? Or no?
QBr in high school? i just never seen that.
I thought the nw qb would win and i do think his two WR helped. Nobody mentioning the grimsley Rb?

  10. Those stats are from the 7 conference games only for the QBs. I would think those are the most important numbers when selecting an “All-Conference” team. Agreed on the Grimsley RB as well, kid is a stud. We get to see him for 2 more years!!

  11. IMHO the names who stood out were Godette, Summers, Stephens, Ballou, Anderson and Cloud. Ballou is a good choice i really cannot argue against that.
    Need to shoutout the rbs.
The real dogs, the big O linemen never get any clout ouch lol.
