******Not sure exactly how he did it, but SWG head men’s coach Greg Vlazny did a great job of keeping his Cowboys in this game…Every time you felt like the PCS Bobcats were going to run off and leave SWG, they just couldn’t keep Southwest Guilford down…Even as the last seconds were ticking off of the game clock, SWG was still trying to cut the PCS lead down to 2-3 points, and he(Coach Vlazny) was almost there, but his guys ran out of time…

SWG would not go away, they just kept on battling, and Piedmont Classical School had the SWG Cowboys out-manned with Richard Goods and Kahlif Barnes around the basket, but SWG did all they could to stay in this game, and they did…To SWG’s credit they continued to attack the basket and they were getting back up court quickly…PCS came on with key reserves late in the contest, but it didn’t really matter who was on the floor, SWG would not give up…

To Coach Greg Vlazny, you have to say this young man had his young men playing their tails off tonight/Thursday night…Piedmont Classical School is very talented and Coach Brown is doing a great job of having his men play together, but there is just so much talent on this team, that PCS is going to have to make sure that they keep that Team Concept out front, and that they continue to keep getting better and working harder at what they do…If this PCS team becomes a hard-working bunch/group/team, they can beat just about anyone…But they will have to find ways to put self aside, and learn to put that Bobcat team name out front and center…

It will be fun to keep watching both of these teams for the rest of this season, and see how far they can go…I would like to see a meeting between Greensboro Day School and Piedmont Classical School this season…I know GDS has Caldwell Academy coming up on the Bengals’ schedule after the first of the year…This PCS team is just beginning to scratch the surface, and where they end up will be anyone’s guess, but they are again, a very talented group…And for SWG, all you have to say is that these guys will follow their leader, and Greg Vlazny will have his young men ready for the Metro 4-A Conference wars…

For both PCS and SWG, and also for GDS, Caldwell, and all of the other teams in our area, they have to get the message that there are NO Nights Off…If you let up, and come out lazy and lacking your focus one night, that will be your “Night of Horrors”…

The Christmas Holiday games are coming to a close, and time to close the door on December, and get ready to attack the January rack….******

  1. After pondering over those numbers i thought i needed to go for a walk. As i was on my walk on Friendly Ave in Greensboro a pink 1986 Eldorado Cadillac pulled up beside and me i heard a voice yell to me “””WHOOOOO DO YOU NEED A RIDE SON?””” i looked over and it was the Nature Boy himself Ric Flair. I said “””Nature Boy””” is that you??? So, I jumped in his Cadillac. To my surprise Jimmy Valiant the boogie woogie man was in the back seat, along with Greg (the Hammer) Valentine both listening to Bob Dayton on WCOG.

It was such an honor to be in the car with such legends, and then the Nature Boy kept driving and driving into the country. I asked him where we are going, and he said to Vandalia Christian School they are having a burn pit of wrestling magazines and my trunk is loaded with wrestling magazines and i want to help, he said.

I told him to take me to Captain D’s first because i was craving some oily fish n fries and overly sweet tea.

Ric made a U-turn and we ended up at the CAROLINA CIRCLE MALL, to my surprise Montgomery Ward was still open and there was a long line of people trying to get in. Finally, we went around the corner to Captain D’s and once we got to the drive thru the nature boy said “WHOOOOO” – and all of our food was free. yes, it was that easy.

Needless to say, we never made it to the magazine burning, because we decided to go to the skateboard park behind the mall instead and we tossed out our greasy Captain D’s scraps in the skateboard park and watched people “””SLIP SLIDING AWAY””” sounds like a song, right???

  2. You missed a great magazine burning. I came over and brought some gas to kick up the blaze and it was a beauty. Really wished you, Ric, and Jimmy could have made it. We wanted to burn some of Ric’s old robes and his trunks too, in memory of Jim Crockett Promotions.

We thought about burning Jimmy’s beard off, but that might have been too dangerous and we would have to have brought in Ken Gray and the Sedgefield Fire Department to do something of that nature.

If you are ever in the area again, please contact us, we want to have you come on board, down on Pleasant Garden Road. I know Ric and Jimmy from way back when, and they are good old boys.

    Talk to you fellas soon.

    TC

  3. Actually Johhny B. Badd was there, he was the one working the concession stand selling Hot Dogs and Chili that were made by Fanny Mae.

  4. If Mr. Thomas and Edith Lunsford were there, then this was a great day for all…

Thank-you Ron for being on top of these events…

If Tommy Hill was still in charge of the VCS PTA, more events like this would be possible…

  5. Tommy Hill was too busy making sure he had enough SKOAL BANDIT in his pickup truck during those long lunch breaks :-)))) He and those folks at SOLO CUPS had a special relationship. SPIT :)))
