UNCG Men’s Basketball Finishes Road Swing at The Citadel

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men’s basketball team faces Southern Conference (SoCon) foe The Citadel Bulldogs on Saturday, February 4 at McAlister Field House.

The Spartans defeated the Bulldogs last time out, 70-60, in Greensboro.

UNCG looks to defend its 5-0 SoCon road record.

The Bulldogs enter the contest 9-15 overall and 4-7 in SoCon play, while the Spartans are 15-9 overall record and 9-2 in conference play. UNCG remains in a three-way tie for first with Samford and Furman.

UNCG defeated Mercer, 69-49, in its first game away from Greensboro in 19 days.
This was the 10th win of the season by double figures.
Graduate student Mohammed Abdulsalam recorded his second double-double of the season, third of his career with a team high 15 points and 16 rebounds.
His 16 rebounds matched his career best.
Keondre Kennedy and Mikeal Brown-Jones each had 12 points, while Keyshaun Langley had 11 points.
Keyshaun and Kennedy each had six rebounds.
UNCG had 46 points in the paint compared to Mercer’s 18.

UNCG is leading the conference in field goal percentage defense (39.7), scoring defense (62.9), steals per game (7.3), three-point percentage defense (30.1), turnover margin (2.0), and turnovers forced per game (14.08).
Among the nation, the Spartans are 23rd in field goal percentage, 27th in scoring defense, 32nd in three-point percentage defense, 62nd in turnover margin, 67th in defensive rebounds per game.
In the nation, Kobe Langley(Southwest Guilford High School) is 29th in steals (47), 36th in assist/turnover ratio (2.53), and 55th in steals per game (1.96).
His twin brother, Keyshaun Langley(Southwest Guilford High School) is also ranked in the nation: 33rd in three-point percentage (40.8), 59th in total three point field goals made (60), and 70th in steals (41).
The Spartans are outscoring opponents, 69.8-62.9, and outrebounding their foes 36.4-34.3.
Keyshaun (13.3), Keondre Kennedy (12.5), and Brown-Jones (10.8) are leading the Spartans in points per game.
Abdulsalam (6.6) and Kennedy (6.1) are leading the team in rebounds per game.

· Head Coach Mike Jones earned his 200th career win as a head coach on Wednesday, January 4 with the win over Chattanooga at the Greensboro Coliseum.

· He had 174 wins with Radford and currently has 28 victories with the Spartans.

· Kennedy scored his 1,000 career point during the first half in a 88-80 victory against Furman on Jan. 14 in Greenville, S.C.

· Keyshaun scored his 1,000 career point during the first half of a 62-50 win over VMI at the Greensboro Coliseum.

· Abdulsalam is eighth in career rebounds (665), seventh is Demetrius Cherry (722).

· Dante Treacy is third all time in career assists (463), Courtney Ledridge leads the Spartans with 584.

The Citadel has lost the last three games, with two being to SoCon foes, Mercer and VMI.
The Bulldogs are leading the conference in free throw percentage (75.8).
Nationally, The Citadel is 25th in free throw percentage and 72nd in turnovers per game (11.7).
Stephen Clark leads the conference and team in field goal attempts.
Austin Ash is leading the SoCon in minutes per game, three point attempts, three pointers per game, and total three point field goals made.
The Bulldogs’ opponents are outscoring them, 74.3 to 69.5.
Their opponents are also outrebounding The Citadel, 38.0 to 32.8.

Following the road series, the Spartans will host ETSU on Tuesday, February 7 at 7:00 p.m. This game will be broadcast on ESPNU.
It will also be the Gold Rush game, where the first 1,000 students will receive a FREE t-shirt.
They then host Wofford on Sunday, February 12 for a 3:00 p.m. contest.
