UNCG Men’s Basketball Dominates in 93-76 Victory over Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA, TENN. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men’s basketball team bounced back with a 93-76 victory over Chattanooga Saturday afternoon at McKenzie Arena in Southern Conference (SoCon) play.

The Spartans saw four with double-digit points, including Bas Leyte leading the team with 16 points. This matched his season-best. Keyshaun and Kobe Langley(Southwest Guilford High School) each had 15 points, as Kobe’s was a season best. Keondre Kennedy chipped in 13 points.

This was the 11th game this season where four or more Spartans recorded double-digit points. UNCG has now won a game by double digits in 13 games this season and scored 90 or more points in five games this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Mocs’ only lead of the game was when KC Hankton hit the first basket at 18:57, 2-0. The Spartans rolled with 10-straight points for a 10-2 advantage and never looked back. UNCG saw its first double-figure lead at 11:08 after a layup from Keyshaun, 25-14. The two teams traded points for the final five minutes of the half, as UNCG went to the locker room with a 14-point lead, 43-31. This was the ninth double-digit lead at the half this season for the Spartans.

UNCG dropped below a 10-point lead just twice in the second half, with the second time at 15:31, following an 11-3 Chattanooga run, 51-42. The Spartans extended its lead to 20 points five times, for its largest lead of the game. The final three minutes and 45 seconds were all free throws for the Spartans, as the Mocs scored 13 points in that time. The 17-point cushion for the win was the 13th win this season by double figures.

BY THE NUMBERS
UNCG had 36 points in the paint, compared to Chattanooga’s 14.
UNCG also outscored Chattanooga on points off turnovers, 19-12.
Kennedy grabbed a team-high eight rebounds and four assists.
Dante Treacy scored eight points and had four assists.
Mikeal Brown-Jones was second on the team with seven boards and six points.
Keyshaun, Kobe, and Mohammed Abdulsalam each had two steals.
Eleven Spartans marked the scoring column. The last time was in a 93-60 win over JWU (CLT) and a 120-48 win over Warren Wilson.

UP NEXT
The Spartans host Western Carolina on Wednesday, February 22 for its final home regular season contest of the season. The two teams will face off at 7:00 p.m. at the Greensboro Coliseum.
