Big South Announces Softball Players of the Week – Feb. 21

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) –- Longwood’s Jaden Pone (Hope Mills, N.C.) has been named the Big South Softball Player of the Week, while Charleston Southern’s Annah Junge (Ballwin, Mo.) is the Pitcher of the Week for games played Feb. 13-19, it was announced today. In addition, Campbell’s Makayla McClain (Ramsuer, N.C.) is the Freshman of the Week honoree.

Pone hit .588 (10-17) and posted three RBI, scored three runs, stole four bases and had hits in all five games last week as Longwood went 3-2. After going 1-2 against Oklahoma, she went 4-4 with two runs and an RBI against Army. She then collected two hits against Baylor, followed by a 2-run double in a victory over Stephen F. Austin. Pone concluded her week with two more hits in a second win over Army. She had a .647 slugging clip and .611 on-base percentage.

Junge went 2-0 with a 1.21 ERA, 22 strikeouts and allowed just seven hits and two walks in 17.1 innings, and held the opposition to a .113 batting average. She opened her week with a complete game victory over UMass, in which she struck out nine batters. Junge then hurled a complete game against Providence with 10 strikeouts, and concluded her week with 3.1 innings of perfect relief against the Friars.

McClain batted .400 (6-15) with five runs, one triple, two RBI and three steals in five games last week. She opened with a run-scoring triple in the Camels’ midweek victory over Purdue, and followed with a 1-3 effort, two swipes and a run scored against Delaware. McClain then went 3-4 with three runs and a stolen base in a victory over East Tennessee State, and concluded her week with an RBI-single in her only official at-bat in Campbell’s 2-1 setback to South Carolina.
