UNCG Baseball Falls in Tight Game to No. 19 NC State, 15-13

GREENSBORO, N.C.– The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team came from behind but eventually fell to No. 19 NC State on Tuesday evening in a close match-up of 15-13 at the UNCG Baseball Stadium.

Caleb Cozart hit his second home run of the season in the third inning, a three-run shot to right center bringing home Daniel Cerda and G.C. Jarman.

HOW IT HAPPENED
It was a battle of the bats with each team tallying 13 hits in the game. Both teams scored two runs in the first inning, but NC State’s offense erupted in the top of the second scoring eight runs bringing the Wolfpack’s advantage to eight, 10-2.

UNCG tied the game at 10 countering with eight total runs between the second and the fourth innings coming off of eight of the Spartans’ 13 hits.

There was a tough battle in the fifth tying the game again, this time at 11, with State’s RBI single, and Cozart walking in the Spartans’ 11th run in the bottom of the frame.

The score tied once more in the eighth as Peebles hit a two-run single to center field and the Spartans’ responded with Kennedy Jones’ RBI single and Zack Budzik’s RBI groundout for a 13-13 score.

With a final opportunity in the ninth, the Wolfpack scored two runs on three hits, including a RBI single from LuJames Groover III, and Carter Trices’ RBI single, 15-13. NC State held off the Spartans in the bottom of the ninth to hold on for its 13-straight win.

On Deck
UNCG heads to Charlotte on Friday to visit Queens with a first pitch slated for 4 p.m., and then the Spartans are back home on Saturday and Sunday against Queens.
