Greensboro falls to Montclair State, 5-3

High Point, NC – Saturday offered a sunny day for the Triad Invitational to get in three games before Sunday’s rain and snow ventures through the area. The Greensboro College Baseball team, once again, opened up the Invite, this time facing Montclair State (NJ). The Pride would fall behind early but mount a comeback in the late linings, but it would not be enough as Greensboro fell to the Red Hawks by a final score of 5-3.

Both teams held each other scoreless in the first inning, but Montclair State would put together four runs and after the top of the seventh inning they led, 4-0. In the Pride’s half of the seventh inning, Senior Connor Morehouse (Kansas City, MO) hit an RBI single to center field, allowing Sophomore Samuel Hayen (Fort Lauderdale, FL) to score, trimming the advantage to three runs. The Red Hawks answered in the top of the eight inning, but Greensboro started a rally in the bottom of the eight inning when Junior Adam Weber (Mebane, NC) hit a ball into center field, driving in Freshman Brody Gardner (Asheboro, NC) and Junior Drake Carrick (Lexington, NC) to pull Greensboro to within two runs. However, they were not able getting any closer as they would fall to Montclair State, 5-3.

Gardner finished the game going 2-3 with a run, while Weber finished with 2 RBI’s. The Pride will return to action (weather permitting) on Sunday, March 12th for the final game of the Triad Invitational when they face Maryville College (TN). First pitch is scheduled for 11:00am.
