UNCG Softball Falls to Notre Dame, 12-3

GREENSBORO, N.C.– The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team dropped a non-conference battle to ACC foe Notre Dame on Wednesday evening, 12-3, at UNCG Softball Stadium.

This was the first meeting between the two teams. UNCG falls to 14-12, while Notre Dame improved to 15-7.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Fighting Irish scored early and often with four runs on four hits and one error in the top of the first. Following a leadoff triple to left field from Carlli Kloss, Notre Dame did not turn back. Joley Mitchell hit a sacrifice fly to center field, while Payton Tidd and Jane Kronenberger each had a RBI double during the frame.

Notre Dame extended its lead to six with two runs on three hits. The Spartans’ first base runner came in the bottom of the second, as Samantha Lagrama walked to lead off, but the Fighting Irish retired the side to hold on to the lead.

With another multi-hit and run inning, Notre Dame went up 9-0 in the top of the fourth.

UNCG broke the no-hitter in the bottom of the fourth, as Maycin Brown led off with a single to right center, followed by Jorde Chartrand’s single to left field. UNCG then cut the deficit back to six with the Spartans’ third-straight hit of the game, a Lagrama three-run blast over the left field wall. This was her third homer of the season.

After back-to-back scoreless innings, Notre Dame’s offense continued with three runs on two hits and one error for a 12-3 advantage.
