UNCG Softball Hosts Notre Dame in First Meeting on Wednesday

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team returns home to host nine-straight games, with the first being ACC opponent Notre Dame tomorrow, Wednesday, March 15 with a first pitch slated for 5:00 p.m.

· The Spartans return home after going 1-3 at the Clemson Classic.

· UNCG defeated Jacksonville 3-0 for its fourth shutout of the season.

· Bryant defeated UNCG 7-6, as the Spartans had 10 hits for the third game with double figure hits.

Cumbie is second on the team swinging .317 at the plate.
Maycin Brown paces the Spartans with 24 RBI and seven home runs.
Chartrand leads UNCG with 43 total strikeouts in the circle after pitching 46.1 innings thus far.
Rhyann Jones is 5-1 in the circle.
Nationally, the Spartans are: 6th in walks (100), 21st in double plays per game (0.48), 38th in home runs per game (1.04), 50th in doubles (33)
UNCG is leading the conference in double plays per game, doubles, home runs per game, on base percentage, shutouts, slugging percentage, and walks.
Among the nation, Brown is 14th in home runs (8), 34th in home runs per game (0.32), 75th in runs batted in (0.96), and 87th in total bases (47).
Among the nation, Maxwell is 23rd in doubles with eight, while Cumbie is 11th in walks per game with 0.88 and 48th in on-base percentage with 0.527.
Cumbie was named SoCon Player of the Week during the first week of play, following the Spartans’ 3-2 start in Florida.
Spell was named SoCon Pitcher of the Week during the second week of play, going 2-0 in the circle.
Cumbie earned her second recognition from the SoCon as Player of the Week for batting .571 with two doubles, two walks, and two runs scored.

PRESEASON PRESENTS
UNCG was chosen to finish second in the SoCon Preseason Coaches Poll.

Fifth year Cumbie was selected to the Preseason All-SoCon first team. Cumbie was named to the All-SoCon first team and SoCon All-Tournament Team. She earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors.

Senior Maycin Brown was voted to the Preseason All-SoCon first team. Brown was named to the All-SoCon first team. She was named Louisville Slugger/NFCA Player of the Week, SoCon Player of the Week, and SoCon Player of the Month last season.

Sophomore Loftin was tabbed to the Preseason All-SoCon first team. Loftin was on the All-SoCon first team and freshman team. She was also voted to the NFCA Extra Inning Softball All-Freshman Team and All-Mideast second team. She was also selected as a Schutt Sports/NFCA Division I National Freshman of the Year Top 25 finalist.

Fifth year Samantha Lagrama was named to the Preseason All-SoCon second team. Lagrama was named to the All-SoCon second team.

SCOUTING NOTRE DAME

The Fighting Irish are 13-7 overall and 3-3 in the ACC.
Notre Dame is swinging through North Carolina to play Elon, UNCG, and East Carolina in three-straight games.
Notre Dame has won the last two games with 10-2 and 7-1 victories over NC State.
Nationally, Notre Dame is 27th in home runs per game (1.15), 50th in slugging percentage (0.467), 53rd in on base percentage (0.384), 59th in batting average (0.297), 72nd in win-loss percentage (0.650), and 77th in scoring (4.95).
Lexi Orozco is leading the team with 16 RBI.
In 17 games played, Mickey Winchell is leading the team with a 0.349 batting average.
Karina Gaskins is leading the team with six home runs.
Payton Tidd has tossed 62.1 innings in the circle and has a 7-4 record.
Joley Mitchell was named ACC Player of the Week last week with a .636 batting average, a pair of home runs, and six RBI.

HISTORY VS. NOTRE DAME

This will be the first meeting between the two teams.
