UNCG Baseball Falls to Greensboro Neighbor NC A&T

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team fell to Greensboro neighbor and non-conference foe NC A&T on Tuesday evening in a mid-week matchup, 9-4, at the UNCG Baseball Stadium.

Mitchell Smith went 4-for-5 and Daniel Cerda swung 2-for-3 at the plate for the only multi-hit games for the Spartans.

How it Happened
NC A&T was quick with its bats, scoring one run to take the lead in the bottom of the first, 1-0.

UNCG fought back in the bottom of the third with a RBI single from Smith to score Bradley Bott from second. The Spartans added two runs in the fourth from Cerda’s RBI single to score Dallas Callahan and Bott’s ground out to bring home Caleb Cozart.

UNCG extended its lead to three, 4-1, with a run from Zack Budzik in the fifth on an infield single from Dosi Jonas.

The Aggies countered by spreading out eight runs on nine hits between the sixth and the eighth innings to bring the advantage to five, 9-4. The Spartans threatened in the bottom of the ninth for one last chance, but the Aggies retired the side and left the bases loaded.

UNCG will host West Virginia in a three-game weekend series, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, starting with a first pitch on Friday, March 17 at 4 pm.
