GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team hosts its final tournament of the season, welcoming Army West Point and Gardner-Webb on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

The Spartans will play Army first on Friday, March 17 with a first pitch slated for 1:30 p.m. at the UNCG Softball Stadium.

LAST TIME OUT

· The Spartans faced ACC opponent Notre Dame for the first time in program history, as the Fighting Irish won 12-3.

· Samantha Lagrama hit her third home run of the season, 28th of her career.

· Maycin Brown went 2-for-4 with one run scored.

· Jorde Chartrand also had a multi-hit game, swinging 2-for-3.

QUICK SPARTAN HITS

Chartrand leads the Spartans with a .361 batting average.
Cumbie is second on the team swinging .299 at the plate.
Maycin Brown paces the Spartans with 24 RBI and eight home runs.
Chartrand leads UNCG with 43 total strikeouts in the circle after pitching 46.1 innings thus far.
Rhyann Jones is 5-1 in the circle.
Nationally, the Spartans are: 12th in walks (101), 25th in double plays per game (0.46), 36th in home runs per game (1.04), 46th in doubles (34).
UNCG is leading the conference in double plays per game, doubles, home runs per game, on base percentage, scoring, shutouts, slugging percentage, and walks.
Among the nation, Brown is 15th in home runs (8), 42nd in home runs per game (0.31), and 81st in total bases (49).
Among the nation, Maxwell is 27th in doubles with eight, while Cumbie is 15th in walks per game with 0.85 and 81st in on-base percentage with 0.505.
Cumbie was named SoCon Player of the Week during the first week of play, following the Spartans’ 3-2 start in Florida.
Spell was named SoCon Pitcher of the Week during the second week of play, going 2-0 in the circle.
Cumbie earned her second recognition from the SoCon as Player of the Week for batting .571 with two doubles, two walks, and two runs scored.

PRESEASON PRESENTS
UNCG was chosen to finish second in the SoCon Preseason Coaches Poll.

Fifth year Cumbie was selected to the Preseason All-SoCon first team. Cumbie was named to the All-SoCon first team and SoCon All-Tournament Team. She earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors.

Senior Maycin Brown was voted to the Preseason All-SoCon first team. Brown was named to the All-SoCon first team. She was named Louisville Slugger/NFCA Player of the Week, SoCon Player of the Week, and SoCon Player of the Month last season.

Sophomore Loftin was tabbed to the Preseason All-SoCon first team. Loftin was on the All-SoCon first team and freshman team. She was also voted to the NFCA Extra Inning Softball All-Freshman Team and All-Mideast second team. She was also selected as a Schutt Sports/NFCA Division I National Freshman of the Year Top 25 finalist.

Fifth year Samantha Lagrama was named to the Preseason All-SoCon second team. Lagrama was named to the All-SoCon second team.

SCOUTING ARMY

The Black Knights are 6-17 overall, losing the last six games.
Army was selected to finish the Patriot League number three in the preseason poll.
Kayla Edwards was named to the Preseason All-Patriot League team.
Angelina Bebek is leading Army with a .306 batting average (19-for-62).
Bebek leads the team with seven RBI and five doubles.
In 41.2 innings pitched, Olivia Farris has struck out 18 batters.
Alicyn Grete leads the pitching staff with 21 strikeouts in 36.0 innings tossed.
The Black Knights have tallied double figure hits in four games this season.
Nationally, Army is 53rd in double plays per game (0.39).
Breanna Izzo is 37th nationally with two saves.

SCOUTING GARDNER-WEBB

Gardner-Webb is 10-16 overall and on a three-game winning streak.
The Runnin’ Bulldogs swept NCCU in three games (7-2, 8-1, & 20-3).
Andrea Lyon, who has played in 26 games, leads the team with a .463 batting average.
Lyon is pacing the Runnin’ Bulldogs with 34 RBI, eight home runs, and eight doubles.
Three others are swinging above .300.
Lyon is also leading Gardner-Webb in the circle with 55.1 innings tossed and a team-best 41 strikeouts.
She has a 3-8 record with four complete games.
In the nation, Lyon is ranked in the top 25 of eight categories.
Nationally, Gardner-Webb is 14th in triples per game (0.38), 19th in walks (96), 58th in on-base percentage (0.380), and 90th in scoring (4.73).
The Runnin’ Bulldogs are leading the Big South in triples per game and walks.
