UNCG Men’s 4×800 Wins Title at 49er Classic in Spartan’s Outdoor Opener

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men’s and women’s track and field teams opened the outdoor season at the 49er Classic at the Irwin Belk Track & Field Center.

The Spartans had eight on the women’s side debut in an event, while nine from the men’s team had debuts in an event.

UNCG’s day was highlighted by a first-place finish by the men’s 4×800-meter relay team. The quartet was comprised of Andrew Hamilton, Jonathan Kennedy, Charlie Bennett, and Andrew Wallace who finished the relay with a time of 7:51.71. The first-place finish was out of nine teams crossing the finish line five seconds faster than Duquesne’s second-place relay team.

The Spartans totaled seven personal bests at the classic and four top-10 finishes including the relay finish.

Dylan Christopher led the Spartans in the 1500-meter run with a personal best time of 3:51.52. His time put him fourth out of 86 competitors, behind two ETSU runners and the individual winner from Wake Forest.

Joe Thoma followed Christopher’s performance with a fifth-place finish in the 1500-meter run clocking in a time of 3:52.10.

Sophomore Ethan Long also had a top-10 finish at the meet. He finished 10th in the 3000-meter run with a time of 8:57.60, while Grant Barbour wasn’t far behind, placing 14th out of 26 competitors with a time of 9:14.81.

Sophomore Colin Keck, in the 800-meter run ran a personal best time of 1:57.16, taking home 18th out of 68 competitors.

On the women’s side, Camille Carlson clocked in a time of 10:58.02 in the 3000-meter run, finishing 16th out of 25 competitors.

Shay Soukup was the top finisher for the Spartans in the 800-meter run placing 22nd out of 68 competitors with a time of 2:22.85. Serena Henderson was the second Blue & Gold across the finish line with a time of 2:27.64, placing 35th, while Bella Manfre ran a personal best time of 2:30.88 in the event.
