UNCG’s Shipley Hits Walk Off for 4-3 Win Over Towson

GREENSBORO, N.C.– The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team extended its win streak to five behind a 4-3 walk off against non-conference foe Towson on Thursday afternoon at the UNCG Softball Stadium.

The five-game win streak is the first this season, and longest streak since the Spartans won six games last season between April 9 and April 16.

The Spartans improve to 19-12 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
With one out in the bottom of the first and the bases loaded, Jessie Shipley drove a long fly ball out to left field for a sacrifice fly, scoring Delaney Cumbie from third.

Samantha Lagrama tallied her first double of the season, scoring Maycin Brown from first for a 2-0 lead.

In the circle, Jorde Chartrand retired seven-straight batters through the third inning fending off the Tigers through five frames. She struck out six batters and let up the first hit of the game in the top of the sixth.

The Spartans added another run in the bottom of the fourth from Jaden Cheek’s RBI single to center field, 3-0.

Kristin Toland doubled in the sixth and following back-to-back strikeouts, Mackenzie Lake homered to left field to cut the deficit to one, 3-2.

The Tigers tied the game at three in the top of the seventh off a solo home run from Jones. With runners on first and second, the Spartans brought in Salem Ward in relief and she got out of a bases loaded jam with a ground out and then her only strikeout of the game.

Brown led off the bottom of the seventh on a leadoff walk and Chatrand moved her over with a sacrifice bunt. Lagrama then walked and then on the first pitch Shipley singled to center field to score Brown for the game-winning run, 4-3.
