A big first inning, back-to-back home runs and solid pitching help Greensboro knock off #18 Methodist, 12-3

Fayetteville, NC – Rain turned a Sunday doubleheader into a single game on Monday, as the Greensboro College Baseball team got back on the bus today looking to come away with a big USA South Conference victory over #18 nationally ranked Methodist University. Behind a big first inning, the Pride set the tone early to move to 4-1 in the conference with the win, 12-3.

Greensboro wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as Senior Connor Morehouse (Kansas City, MO) singled in Freshman Brody Gardner (Asheboro, NC) which was followed by a Junior Drake Carrick (Lexington, NC) RBI single to make the score, 2-0. Morehouse would eventually score on a double by Freshman Evan Sykes (Graham, NC) and then Carrick came across the plate, courtesy of a Junior Adam Weber (Mebane, NC) single, to end the top of the inning leading 5-0. The Monarchs would get one back in the bottom of the third inning and another in the fourth inning to trim the Pride’s advantage to three runs, but that didn’t last long as RBI’s from Sophomore Cam Watts (Kernersville, NC) and Freshman Hudson Powell (Greensboro, NC) increased the lead back to five runs, 7-2. Greensboro added another run in the top of the sixth inning when Carrick drove home Sophomore Samuel Hayen (Fort Lauderdale, FL) and in the seventh inning Junior Cameron Edmonds (Whitsett, NC) and Carrick hit back-to-back home runs opening up the Pride’s lead to 12-2. Despite one more run by Methodist, the Pride would come away with the conference win, 12-3.

Greensboro was led by Weber who finished the game 3-4 with two RBI’s, a double and a run, while Morehouse went 3-5 with an RBI and a run. On the mound, Senior Sam Peddycord (Kernersville, NC) picked up the win, striking out four batters, while only giving up three runs.

The Pride will return to action on Friday, March 31st as they host William Peace University at Truist Point Stadium in High Point, NC. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00pm.
