Greensboro gets 20th win of the season with the doubleheader sweep at Methodist

Fayetteville, NC – The Greensboro College Softball team traveled to Fayetteville on Sunday looking to increase the number in their win column. However, in order to do that, they would have to get by a tough Methodist University team, who had their sights set on knocking off they Pride. In the end, it would be Greensboro who would sweep the doubleheader to earn their 20th win of the season, 11-7 and 7-5.

Game One

The Monarchs wasted no time in the bottom of the first inning jumping out an early lead, 3-0. The Pride were able to tie the game in the second inning when Sophomore M’Kenzie Davis (Greensboro, NC) hit an RBI triple to score Senior Hannah French (Reidsville, NC), Junior Ivy Ray (Thomasville, NC) and Junior Alexis Sox (Burlington, NC). Methodist eventually regained the lead, but RBI’s from Ray and Sophomore Brooklyn Rush (Asheboro, NC) helped Greensboro grab the advantage, 7-5. After the game became tied again, Sox drove in a run in the sixth inning and then in the seventh inning, the Pride clinched the game when French, Rush and Davis all scored to secure for the win, 11-7.

Greensboro was led by Rush, who finished 2-2 with 3 RBI’s and a run, while Davis was 1-2 with 4 RBI’s and a run. On the mound, Kassie Simmons (Gibsonville, NC) picked up the win, striking out three batters.

Game Two

The Pride fell behind early, but in the fifth inning, they would score five runs behind RBI’s from Sophomore Kelsey Craven (Ramseur, NC), Sox, Ray and Rush, which gave Greensboro the lead, 5-4. They continued to score in the sixth and seventh innings when Simmons hit a sacrifice fly to left field, driving in Senior Kailey Walker (Eden, NC) followed by a single from Davis to send Ray across the plate. That is all the scoring the Pride would need as they earned the win and the sweep, 7-5.
Ray led Greensboro, finishing 4-4 with 2 RBI’s and 2 runs, while Simmons went 2-3 with an RBI and a run. In addition, Junior Lauren Engel (Huntersville, NC) pitched the complete seven innings to earn the win.

The Pride will stay on the road as they head to Rocky Mount, NC on Monday, April 3rd to face North Carolina Wesleyan University in a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00pm.
