A two hit outing from Engel in Game One and three-run HR by Sox in Game Two lead Pride to sweep over NC Wesleyan

Rocky Mount, NC – On Monday afternoon the Greensboro College Softball team faced one of its toughest challenges on the road at USA South foe North Carolina Wesleyan University. It would take strong pitching in game one and a late come from behind rally, for an extra innings win, in game two for the Pride earn the sweep over the Battling Bishops by scores of 3-1 and 7-4.

Game One

Greensboro scored two runs in the top of the first inning, courtesy of a ground out sacrifice RBI by Sophomore Madison Dillner (Leicester, NC) and an RBI single by Senior Kassie Simmons (Gibsonville, NC). The Pride would push another run across the plate in the fourth inning when Kailey Walker (Eden, NC) hit an RBI single to center field, scoring Sophomore Brooklyn Rush (Asheboro, NC), to increase the lead to 3-0. NC Wesleyan got one back and began a rally in the bottom of the seventh inning, but Junior Lauren Engel (Huntersville, NC) pitched her way out of a jam to secure the USA South Conference win, 3-1.

Greensboro was led by Dillner who finished 2-3, while Walker and Simmons each recorded RBI’s in the win. On the mound. Engel went the distance, only allowing two hits.

Game Two

The Battling Bishops worked their way to a four run lead as they scored two in the first inning and two in the third inning. However, after Sophomore Katie Allison (Savannah, NC) scored the Pride’s first run of the game, Junior Alexis Sox (Burlington, NC) came to the plate and hit a 3-run homerun to tie the game at 4-4. The score would remain that way, sending the game into extra innings. In the top of the eighth inning, Allison lined a base hit into left field to score Sox and then Sophomore M’Kenzie Davis (Greensboro, NC) drove in two more runs helping Greensboro go on to win the game, 7-4.

Allison led the Pride going 2-4 with an RBI and a run, while Sox added three RBI’s on her homerun to go along with a run of her own.

Greensboro will return to action this Wednesday, April 5th as they host Southern Virginia in a doubleheader at Barber Park. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00pm.
