UNCG Softball Returns Home to Challenge North Carolina on Tuesday

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team kicks off the month of April with in-state foe North Carolina on Tuesday, April 4 for a non-conference battle at the UNCG Softball Stadium.

The Spartans enter the contest 23-12 overall with a 3-0 Southern Conference record and a nine-game win streak. This matches the longest streak since last season’s streak between March 20 and April 3.

The Tar Heels are 14-24 overall and 4-8 in the ACC.

LAST TIME OUT

· The Spartans extended its win streak to nine with a 4-2 victory against in-state rival Charlotte 49ers on Wednesday at the Sue M. Daughtridge Stadium.

· Three of the four runs came from Blayke Batten’s fifth home run of the season.

· The 10 hits was the fifth time this season that the Spartans tallied double-digit hits.

· Maddie Spell earned her sixth win of the season in her 11th appearance in the circle.

QUICK SPARTAN HITS

Chartrand leads the Spartans with a .364 batting average.
Brooklynn Maxwell is second with a .337 batting average and leading the team with 10 doubles.
Maycin Brown paces the Spartans with 27 RBI and nine home runs.
Chartrand leads UNCG with 58 total strikeouts in the circle after pitching 62.2 innings thus far.
Rhyann Jones is 7-1 in the circle.
Nationally, the Spartans are: third in walks (149), fourth in double plays per game (0.54), tied for 17th in home runs (3), 19th in home runs per game (1.23), 43rd in slugging percentage (0.480), 52nd in on base percentage (0.383) and scoring (5.40), 60th in win-loss percentage (0.657) and doubles (45), and 72nd in shutouts (6).
UNCG is leading the conference in 11 categories including: double plays per game, doubles, doubles per game, earned run average, home runs per game, on base percentage, scoring, shutouts, slugging percentage, win-loss percentage, and walks.
Among the nation, Brown is 47th in home runs (9), 78th in home runs per game (0.26).
Delaney Cumbie is sixth nationally in walks per game (0.89), while Samantha Lagrama joins her in the top 25 and is 23rd in in walks per game (0.76).
Cumbie is also 55th in on-base percentage (0.500), 77th in runs per game (0.89), and 91st in hit by pitch per game (0.20).
Cumbie was named SoCon Player of the Week twice so far this season, while Spell has been voted SoCon Pitcher of the Week twice, and Jones earned SoCon Pitcher of the Week once.

SCOUTING NORTH CAROLINA

The Tar Heels are 14-24 overall thus far.
North Carolina was voted to finish 11th in the ACC.
The Tar Heels most recently defeated Virginia, 5-3 on Sunday, after falling twice to the Cavaliers twice with scores of 1-0 and 3-0.
North Carolina defeated then-ranked No. 11 Virginia Tech, 4-0 on March 11.
Nationally the Tar Heels are: 88th in stolen bases per game (1.29) and 95th in double plays per game (0.32).
Abby Settlemyre is 53rd nationally in total bases (72), 73rd in home runs (8), and 84th in hits (40).
