Baseball Falls to Samford

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team fell to Samford on Thursday afternoon, 9-2, in Southern Conference (SoCon) play.

How it Happened

Daniel Cerda hit a triple in his first at-bat and he later scored off of Rowan Watt’s ground out to the second base to put the Spartans on board first in the top of the second, 1-0.

Samford countered with a solo home run from Lucas Steele in the bottom of the second to even the score, 1-1.

The Bulldogs added five runs in the bottom of the fourth, off of four hits. Two of the four hits were two two-run home runs from Aaron Walton and Stephen Klein. Jayden Davis also hit a RBI single to right center scoring Garrett Staton for the fifth run, 6-1. Davis then extended the lead to six with a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth, 7-1.

With the bases loaded in the top of the seventh, G.C. Jarman was walked to bring home his teammate Bradley Bott cutting the deficit to five, 7-2.

Samford had one final push in the bottom of the seventh with another home run and a RBI single to extend its lead to seven, 9-2.
